People exaggerate the issues, like always, but there are some definite issues. I really like the game, but I understand why it's a tossup for some.
The biggest complaint (mainly from people who haven't played it) is the length, which isn't bad at all. It's 25-30 hours for the main story and 50-60 hours to kill 6W EQ on Galaxy.
Unless you really adore SO3, I'd recommend renting SO5 to see if you like it before you buy.
