Decent gameplay

Gorgeous art direction.

I'm glad there's at least one company keeping 2D beat em ups alive and well.

They look fucking beautiful

They should be on PC.

They shouldn't.

This is coming from someone who actually owns them both on Vita

Muramasa's good, DragonQuest is boring
Art is great in both though.
>>
>>338315287
>They shouldn't.

Why wouldn't you want great games to be available on more platforms? More sales and they'd perform better. Dragon's Crown performs like ass on the Vita when there's too much happening on screen.
>>
>>338315287
Shouldn't what? Add muscles?

No, fuck off. I also own a Vita, just keep them on Vita.

Genroku Legends (Muramasa DLC thing) is better than the game itself.

Loved Fury mode on Muramasa.

Didn't get around to buying Dragon's Crown, looked at gameplay and its not for me. My Vita is on lower FW so I can't play online.
>>
>>338315554

Both are great, but I like Muramasa more in every way. Far better gameplay and music, more visually pleasing backgrounds, and while the story in miinor for each of them, Muramasa's is still better. Only thing I can really give Dragon's Crown over it is better boss art.

You can get a Vita for around $100 these days. The only problem is the shitty expensive memory cards. If you only buy physical, it's not a big deal. Just make sure you have at least an 8 or 16gb card just in case there IS something you want that's digital.
There is the EXTREMELY cheap PSTV, but like you said, you ain't got room for a TV AND you can't play some of the games on it.

both games look godlike visually.
muramasa is mashy but the new control options on vita are tight. the dlc characters are fun and the stories are good but short. areas are repetitive but everything looks so beautiful that you don't care.

dragons crown is one of the best beat em ups of all time.
a randomized tower that reuses screens but randomizes spawns was the best idea for the genre.
it could use more playable characters

seems like every vanillaware game is good but could use some tweaks to the combat.
for instance there's more depth to streets of rage 3 movesets than dragon's crown.

Just don't get tricked into playing Elf if you choose dragon's crown. She seems fun and awesome early game but then once you get to the end game content she has only one viable strategy. Jump down shot. Over and over. Forever.

Odin Sphere and Muramasa are like works of art. The music and art is amazing and the gameplay is a lot of fun too. They have a great atmosphere. Muramasa is probably better though.

Dragon's Crown is a bit different. If you haven't got friends to play it with you it's really dull. Also the gameplay is slower and clunkier.

Both games made the most of the OLED on the original model compared to how muddy, colourless or just bad looking other titles could be. Which is also funny because of how high res some of the art is.

The gallery from Dragon's Crown was worth fighting for though. There's a good section in nearly every piece of artwork for any given background screen.

I'm replacing my Vita when Odin Sphere comes.

Muramasa is excellent. Great gameplay, solid difficulty, interesting story, great design, and an excellent job at portraying the japanese mythology aspect. It's easily one of the games I always recommend.

Dragon's Crown is fun, looks very nice, does a good job with that brawler genre and has a nice loot/leveling system reminding people of D&D and it's brawler titles. However, it does get repetitive and there's no guarantee that the online will have people for you. It's best if you like that genre, but a lot harder sale otherwise.

Muramasa is one of the best vita games, very enjoyable.

Dragon's Crown was very boring and I regret buying it. All the hub-bub about the anime tiddies kept everyone from warning me about how bland the game is and how tedious local co-op can get.
>>
>>338324868
It's actually kind fascinating that you find Dragon's Crown boring and tedious while Muramasa isn't

I mean, I love both games, but you can't really argue that they all have very grindy and samey moments where you're just going through the same enemies over and over and not much changes apart from your character

The real fun of the games, in my opinion, is on the bosses themselves, and on the first playthrough of regular enemies
>>
>>338324583
Muramasa actually has a decent story and motivations for the characters. You can end up liking the characters by the end if you understand what they are going through.

It's not even the best aspect of the game, but a good one tacked on can still make the game enjoyable..

>It's actually kind fascinating that you find Dragon's Crown boring and tedious while Muramasa isn't
In Muramasa, you run into different encounters in the same areas with different characters. Bosses, as you note, are different for every character. You're doing different things in each area, as well. You might be retreading ground, but it's frequently new content.

In Dragon's Crown, the content and the missions will be the same regardless of which character you use. It's the same story, through the same stages with the same encounters and bosses each character. Most optional quests just involve going through the same stages as you previously visited, which are going to be exactly the same as before.

There's quite a bit more repetition in Dragon's Crown which isn't there in Muramasa.

Muramasa just felt a lot faster and I never had to worry about being on the same horizontal plane as my enemy.

When I played Dragon's Crown, I was bent on playing as the amazon because T H I C K but she turned out to be kind of a boring character to play as. I also made the mistake of playing with friends. I don't know if you ever played the local co-op in that game but players can't go through their menus at the same time. Everyone has to repair their weapons, accept quests, buy shit, etc one-at-a-time. It felt like we were spending more time doing in-between dungeon maintenance rather than cool shit. We ended up getting really frustrated with each other because of how much time was being wasted in town and I haven't touched the game since.

I guess another important point is that I just don't have a special reverence for the style of beat-em-up Dragon's Crown was trying to revive.

Back when DC was announced there wasn't even a peep of port begging. People were talking about the characters and game. Now you can't even have a thread with out some one saying PC this or shitposting like >>338326916

It's often just a vocal minority. Everyone is too busy on League, Hearthstone, Dota 2, or CSGO to care about the latest port.

>>338326829
I've found that spellcasters (and presumably the Elf) are a bit more complicated than melee users. Melee tends to just be charge the enemy, jump at the enemy, and use a special attack. The Wizard has three different staffs with somewhat different attacks on each, complete with very different aerial attacks and different charged attacks. And there is the MP management, and switching between weapons. It can still get repetitive, but at least you are changing things up a bit rather than doing the same charge-attack routine over and over.

It's disappointing to hear about the co-op problems, though.

Back when Muramasa released on Wii we had nice discussion about it and Vanillaware games in general.
The Vita re-release was used to show what a shitty translation we got but we still had game discussions.
Dragon's Crown AFTER release got nice game discussions and Vanillaware games in general.
And before all those "PC PORT WHEN" posts showed up, discussions about Vanillaware games were possible.
I can see how some people don't want it on PC but I don't see how a PC port is badly needed. I mean, Dragon's Dogma needed a PC port because the perfomance and resolution on 360/PS3 was dogshit but Dragon's Dogma threads/discussion luckily didn't become worse after PC release.

PC babbies do exist. "Artificial Difficulty" is a good example for that.
They didn't even get to play pre-1.04 Dark Souls

That'd be cool, although Muramasa has already been released twice so I don't see it happening again, at least not so soon and certainly not on PS4 after the Vita release. Dragon's Crown on the other hand would do quite well for a PS4 re-release, methinks.
>>
Muramasa was great, though I could only play the Wii version.

Dragon's Crown was a lot of fun too but I sometimes felt like the RPG elements bogged down the beat 'em up too much. I still played a lot of it though.

Odin Sphere is still my favourite VW game despite the kind of clunky combat and repetitive design. Leifthrasir looks like it's going to be GOAT.

why would you not do this? These games play better with a controller. Playing games on PC with a Dualshock 3 works comfortably well. There's also Xbox controllers but I don't think they're quite as comfy.
>>338316726
Yeah, and its pretty cool that you can do that. More choices for players on how to play a game. Dirge of Cerberus back on the PS2 even had keyboard support. Was really weird and cool.
>>
Speaking of Odin Sphere, what are the differences between the PS3 and PS4 versions?
>>
>>338336009
I couldn't get into the original Odin Sphere. The new version better I guess?
>>
>>338334889
I felt GrimGrimoire would be really good on the Vita if they made it 100% touchscreen.
I think why it failed on PS2 was because the controls were so bad... At least I felt it like that.
>>
>>338314356
Didn't play Muramasa.
Dragon's Crown is fucking awesome
>>
>>338336660

Depends on why you couldn't get into the original I guess.

The new one has totally overhauled gameplay,to bring it more in line with Muramasa and Dragon's Crown, so the combat is a lot faster/more fluid and the characters have more abilities.
>>
>>338318169
It varies depending on the game. Neptunia Rebirth games did fantastically. Danganronpa games did acceptably well. Mind/Zero and The Firefly Diary sold like shit.
>>
>>338337005
Well then it seems this version is up my alley.
>>
>>338337083
Didnt The Firefly Diary just got release like a day ago?
>>
>>338337349
2 days ago to be exact. Perhaps I'm being a little unfair, but I don't expect it to increase by much more. At least not quickly. Most other games increase in sales much faster I believe. Even Danganronpa did on release.
>>
>>338337083

The Firefly Diary and especially Mind Zero are also just fairly mediocre games that few people have ever heard of, so that's not too big a surprise.

I'll never understand what's up with PCfats and Neptunia though. I don't dislike the series (I found most of the Rebirth games fun enough for at least a playthrough, and legitimately like Hyperdevotion Noire) but those games consistently top the charts when they release on Steam and it's fucking bizarre.
>>
>>338337083
Mind/Zero wasn't even a finished game, people who bought it deserve their money back.

>>338337774
I think its partly because Neptunia was the first sign of Japanese games starting to appear on PC so a lot of people jumped on it in the beginning in the hopes of getting better games only to realize it was actually pretty fun, hence the high initial sales. So it was the first big exposure on Steam, and once people played one they realized that they're pretty fun. That added to the fact that they are lighthearded and humorous enough to make them easy to spread and show off via screenshots and videos to others, making them more marketed than some other PC games. And finally they've appeared on Humble Bundle before, so I'm sure that helped increase awareness to some degree (along with boost sales numbers, although I don't really think Humble Bundle sales should be considered a good metric for a game selling well considering how dirt cheap games are in those bundles). Basically it had a lot of reason to garner attention though, hence why they sell so well. At least that's what I think.
>>
Visually gorgeous but I fucking hated playing Dragon's Crown.

It's been a long time since I played Muramasa back on the Wii, but I think I had more fun with it because it was much faster compared to DC.
>>
>>338338495

i'm playing muramasa on my oled vita and i don't get it.

yeah it looks great, the designs are stellar and the music is exotic. but i'm just running through rectangle zones waiting for the same ninjas to ambush me again so i can talk to the furry titty monster at the next save point. seems over half the gameplay is just me running to the next area.
>>
>>338337774
>I'll never understand what's up with PCfats and Neptunia though.
They are massive grindy time wasters, and one thing I've noticed about a lot of people who buy tons of Steam games: they have a massive amount of time available to waste. I don't like them at all, but then again, I'm fairly busy and selective with my game choices. Neptunia feels like it intentionally wastes my time, which is my biggest qualifier for a poor game.
>>
>>338339376
>i'm playing muramasa on my oled vita and i don't get it.
Things get more challenging as you get further into the game. Stuff like the frogs, or the ninjas with bombs, or the tengu mean you'll need to put those skills you are developing to good use. You won't be able to just hack your way through everything; dodging and the air dashes and the shield breaking becomes important, especially being able to do them quickly.

The bosses and the challenge areas really put those skills to the test.
>>

>>

I just bought those exact two games the other day.

I already had (and beat) the PS3 version of Dragon's Crown, and Murumasa is another gorgeous, hand-drawn game.

The gameplay in both is typical 2-D/2.5-D combo-based brawler with lots to upgrade.

I'm glad I got both. Even though there wasn't anything unexpected about the gameplay, they still make for two enjoyable games.
