Reminder some of the best games ever released (Half Life, System Shock 2, Hitman Blood Money/Silent Assassin, DOOM II, American McGee's Alice, Metroid Prime, etc) are ~10-14hrs long, and some even better games (SMB3, Quake, Doom, Super Metroid, etc) are 4-8hrs long

2. Being the shitter I am, Nightmare has taken about 35 hours to complete for me.

Game was really fun & enjoyable. Physical copy came with "season pass" (which I wasn't going to buy but hey - it's free) + extras like fabric patches and a poster, which is nice because I was buying the physical version just for the alt cover art, which is fucking awesome.

So I'd say I'm greatly pleased with this purchase.

Yeah I agree the demon design is pretty "cartoonish", but other than that, this cyberdemons was an ACTUAL boss and not just a bigger imp with more health that took lik 200 plasma rounds to kill.

Turn off compass and objective markers, it makes the game longer in a more natural way without feeling like you're gimping yourself, highlights the well designed levels, makes it actually feel like a Doom game. The markers ruin it. I turned them off in my first playthrough and on in my second, they are utter shit, the levels are actually really well crafted if you just turn that shit off. The length is also incredibly well paced, I can replay each level and never feel a dull "shit I have to go through THIS part again" because its all so good and concise. I spent a lot of time in snapmap but after beating the game on Ultra Violence I had thirty hours in it.

Not trying to justify my purchase, justify myself to anonymous people, just how I honestly feel about the game

A standard, 2 hour movie is 12 dollars.

If this game is (let's round up for the sake of simplicity) 12 hours long, then going by the above metric, it should cost 72 dollars.

This game embodies everything good about this game.

Is it perfect? No. But it IS a step in the right direction, and LIGHTYEARS ahead of modern singleplayer FPS game design.

8 hours? Jesus christ people do you know how long I've waited for an AAA FPS to have a singleplayer campaign that's longer than 5? And is anywhere near this much pure fun to play through?

The Cyberdemon is by far my least favorite redesign. All the other redesigns are great, but the Cyberdemon lost everything about it that made it cool.

It no longer looks like an unholy mixture of a giant demon with goat legs and mechanical parts, it no longer has the menacing footstep sounds, and it's relegated to a simple boss fight rather than appearing within multiple levels.

The build up to seeing the Cyberdemon was awesome, but overall disappointing.

Playing on nightmare. Glory kills are a huge risk and it's typically way safer to just blow the fucker up. If I have down time and can glory kill a few trash mobs or the one big guy left I'll do it but those situations are honestly kinda rare. It's optional to the point where you can literally turn it off in the options menu. On higher difficulties trying to do the animation will more often than not just get you smacked by a fireball once you finish it (although if you do finish it you'll get a really tiny amount of bonus healing, which is a fair trade for putting yourself in a vulnerable position). Most demons that aren't miniboss tier will go down in one shot to some weapon but you've gotta actually have good aim if you're gonna be oneshotting anything on the hard modes. Virtually all weapons have at least one form of alt fire, with most having two that you switch between using R.

It's a good game, at the very least grab it from a keysite or something.

Long campaigns in shooters tend to fall off eventually. There is only so much a developer can do in a story before it gets extremely repetitive and boring. Between 8-15 hours average is a great time for a story.

Anything beyond that to add to game play should be done through challenges, multiplayer, and custom maps. Games that do that fit a perfect balance and people can dump hours into them.

I would have gladly taken a cutscene for that, but instead we get 30 minutes of Grandma being a dead space creeper explaining jackshit of lore other than she's a lunatic. Health doesn't matter when you get 2-3 shot on nightmare unless you play on bitch mode. Not being able to regen health in multiplayer is stupid as hell because you just go into the next fight with 10-50% health from what you collected thus not getting killstreaks because of your actual skill instead of being at a debuff in 1v1. 2 weapon limit, you dont have time to weapon swap more than once or u fucking dead anyways

I remember when Wolfenstein TNO was supposed to be 10 hours long and at least 6 of those hours were cutscenes, hub missions, and other unnecessary padding.

I beat the game when I had 20 hours clocked on it. I got almost all the secrets and I had to replay some levels to get them. I also played the classic levels that I managed to find. I feel like I got my money's worth since almost all of that 20 hours was non stop, heart pounding, action packed fun. This was on Hurt Me Plenty too. I'm doing an Ultra Violence run now.

I am. Not even gonna lie to you anon. I suck at FPS games, but I'm slowly getting better. I will eventually beat this game on Nightmare. I cheesed the last few levels with Rich Get Richer and Armored Offensive. With both of those enhanced, the game becomes a cake walk since you kill anything before it can even attack. I'm not going to use Rich Get Richer in my Ultra Violence run.
