ITT: Post games with a specific mechanism that's better than other games.

Name ONE (1) game that has a better dodging mechanism than God Hand.

mein negger. it's the only thing that could stop the "zoning" of unlimited kens

The economy is scripted though, it kinda sucks when you realize it on subsequent playthroughs

incredibly niche but, Turn Based interactive combat, Shadow Hearts is another good example with it's judgement wheel but only has that one minigame to master.

>turn based game
>no RNG bullshit to be found
>every attack activates a minigame and 99% of abilities CAN crit
>there's no chance to crit, you just git gud and then you can 100% crit everytime
>crit's cant be avoided which means your hit rate is now 100%

going from this to games like Xcom just makes me fucking weep at how lazy devs are and just shove RNG into everything instead of making an interactive system thats fun

I think he's referring to the fact that as the town starts running out of time, things like food and medicine have price skyrockets, and once the military shows up I think bullets get cheaper if I remember right.
I think it added a lot to the atmosphere.

I love Gladius. I remember making a full beasts group and thought bears were fucking op. But then you meet the bugs at the desert and shit gets real.

I don't mind it being scripted, really, since systems that try to react to the player's trading almost always end up broken or too easily manipulable. And it works with how big the town is and its arcane rules, so thematically I think it does a great job.

As >>338245589 said I think it does a good job of believable reactions to what's happening in the town, and having prices affect different things in different ways (like Gryph, for example)
I also love that it doesn't try and ease the player into it at all, most new players with the Bachelor would find themselves blindsided by the price hikes on day 2 I imagine, not because they come out of nowhere but because they simply didn't think ahead (unless they were following a guide)

There's also quite a few events later on in the game where the player can think themselves around an obstacle - like later on in the game as the Bachelor when you're collecting money to bribe Gryph to help you free the Haruspicus, if you can overcome the Reputation hit you can just collect the money and then kill the guards to free him yourself, and keep the money

I am looking forward to seeing what they do with it in the remake, though.

Is it worth playing if you have to emulate it?
>>
>>338245441
Fucking god tier game. Never could understand why it never caught on or at least get mentioned in underrated classics threads. Probably put 250 or so hours into that masterpiece.

You didn't play as Ursula did you? You're not some filthy casual, right?

I don't know if it emulates well, but as a game it was a masterpiece. So give it a try. What do you have to lose except bandwidth?
