Newer TES games could take a lot from the old ones, I'd love to see the bigger cities back, even if we miss out on named NPC's it's not like 90% of them have anything to offer after your first trip to town anyway.

Hlaalu, and probably Hlaalu. The Hlaalu are cunts, though, so you should just join the Redoran instead - especially since the Redoran are engaged in the most direct competition with the Telvanni.

Because apart from having the best questline, there's enough in-character reasons to not wish to.

That's what I was hoping the manor would look like, at least a smaller version, if that makes sense. Telvanni is really claustrophobic and Hlaalu is conventional, Skar is probably my favorite location in the whole game. Settled for living in Ienas Sarandas's house. It's small like the inside of the Redoran manor but it feels like a house instead of an inn.

>Joined the Morag Tong because you thought the House disputes were petty
>Now you realise that they are worthy of service/have influence/can be useful for your own power so you decide to join the one that [fits best with character motivation]
I believe in you, anon! Telvanni and Redoran are cool, Telvanni probably has the better (if weirder) questline. Redoran quests are also really cool and I love their philosophy, but it's a bit shorter than the others. Hlaalu are a bunch of faggots basically.

>>338260987
>You probably already killed quite a few questgivers, too.
Only if he's accepted and completed the Grandmaster writs, and has thus completed the main quest - and only for Hlaalu and Telvanni, there's no Redoran conflict.

>>338261182
>Btw, what do i do with the threads of sanguine that i'll find from now on? The guy used to say that they were, what, 27?
There are 26, and they're still there, but now the only thing you can really do with them is collect them and decorate your house with them (which is still probably the best use because they're all unique and they have cool names). If you complete the quest for Eno before he leaves, he'll give you a unique spell which is useful but not essential - mainly for the fact that it's the only way to get Fortify Attack as a spellmaking effect, but Fortify Attack isn't particularly useful (it can be made up for with other Fortify effects like Strength, Agility and Weaponskill) so it's really only for hardcore completionists.

>>338261374
Morrowind is mainly not levelled, but some enemy types draw from a levelled list. So you tore through the low-level Apprentices who were levelled to you, then walked straight into a level 50 unique NPC.

Tribunal's for high-level characters sera, and the mainland attacks stopped when you got to Mournhold city of Light, city of magic! for the first time, so just go back to Vvardenfel for a while and play the game some more.

You can stash your gold somewhere, but the only real goldsinks in Morrowind are training and enchanting/spellmaking, so it's not absolutely essential - it's not like Skyrim where at high levels you can just go out and buy a bunch of Ebony/Daedric stuff. Just pace yourself training, and you'll be fine.

You know, if they hadn't enabled "always use best attack", it would have made using the OP as fuck weapons really grating but also interestingly diverse.

It could encourage people to use more common and inferior weapons just because its easier to get good attacks with them.

Or they could have given you a reason to thrust or slash like anti armor or anti creature bonuses. There's that.
>>
>>338263904
it still pisses me off when people mod houses to morrowind. entire idea is that you're a nobody, an outlander, and great houses are the only ones who can provide you with backing to become someone in material sense. hence their strongholds if you back them up. or kill an npc and move into his place.

I didn't mean that I disliked it as much as I do the Hlaalu in general; it has a nice layout and the quest to complete it is cool, and in setup and location it fits nicely with the mercantile House theme. It's just that I absolutely adore the Redoran architecture, and if I usually have two houses in Balmora already - Hlaalo Manor (especially if I'm a member of the House) and a skooma den by Caius' place

It's viable, you get good crits bonuses for stealth archery and backstabbing. Also illusion spells really help, you don't need that high a skill to get longer invisibilty spells.

>>338263951
Viable and interesting, though it's different to later games. Sneak criticals can be tremendously powerful, especially with melee weapons, especially considering the higher damage in general you're capable of inflicting. Stealth is binary, though, so you're either sneaking or you're not - once you're detected, you're gonna stay detected. Mixing up a weapon skill /and/ hand-to-hand is pretty fun, and you do have a greater variety of utility spells than in later games - Invisibility is available at a relatively low level of Illusion (or as an enchantment), and Illusion also gives you Chameleon, Calm, Paralyze and Sanctuary. Other useful spells from other schools are stuff like Open and Lock, Jump, Levitate, and Telekinesis. A hybrid Nightblade-type would probably be the best way to go, but you might now find yourself using stealth as much as you intended - still, it's worth giving a go.

What's best for modding Morrowind's graphics? People kept recommending the Graphics Extender to me, but there was someone else who mentioned OpenMW supports bump mapping now? Do I just use the /tesg/ guide? Please help, I'm lost.
I don't really need lots of gameplay mods, so long as I can try Tamriel Rebuilt I'll be happy.

And even though it made sense narratively (and the special characters like the Legate and Priest of Arkay you can meet almost make up for it), almost no High Elves. I mean, Morrowind was supposed to be incredibly racist and there was still a better mix of races.

Right now openmw is shitty for graphics as you do not have lighting nor distant terrain, so I would stick to vanilla mw. Openmw has bump and normal mapping but there are like 2 mods which uses that right now.

If you like how this mw looks >>338274861, then really all you need is mge and watercolour (and ofc some fixes like mcp and exe optimiser). If not, mgso is good looking overhaul.

Talk to based Percius Mercius first (you should do this before most Fighters Guild quests just to hear his opinion)

To get the book: if you're not a member of the Thieves Guild, get her disposition high enough through charm/bribes (70+) and she'll give it to you. Then, if you EVER WANT TO JOIN THE THIEVES GUILD, join them before you hand the book in.

If you are a member of the Thieves Guild already, she won't give it to you, so either pickpocket her (using Chameleon/Fortify Sneak as necessary) or Taunt her into attacking you (repeated bribes and taunting work, or you could Fortify your speechcraft to give you a better chance at success)
>>
>>338278664
either use cash to bribe her enough, she'll give it to you.

If you are part of the thieves guild you'll have to pickpocket it off of her. There is a fued between the two guilds, seeing as the fighter's guild is allied with the Camonna Tong.

Also, if you plan on joining the thieves guild, you need to do that before handing in the code book, or else you'll be locked out of the thieves guild forever.

>Telvanni
Good choice.
>I've heard magic is hard at the start.
It is, due to a combination of factors but mainly due to limited and non-regenerating Magicka and a decent chance of casting failure at low skill levels.
Firstly: Magicka. Your Magicka is determined entirely by a multiplier x your Intelligence stat, so with a normal multiplier of one you'll have a maximum of 100 at any one time. You can increase this with Alchemy and Enchanting, but if you want enough to play around with for the majority of your play through, you'll want a higher multiplier - through a combination of race (Altmer/Breton) and/or Birthsign (Apprentice, Mage, Atronach). Each have their own advantages and disadvantages, and at the end you're still going to want a character /you/ want to play, so choose whatever you want.
Regenerating magicka: on rest, through potions, by Absorbing it from the world (through Temple shrines, for example, or summonable Ancestor Ghosts) or through the 'exploit' of Draining (NOT Damaging) your Intelligence to 0 momentarily (either with a custom spell or a few swigs of booze like sujamma) will give you full Magicka once the effect wears off.
Spells have a chance to fail (well, a chance to be cast, but whatever) that depends mostly on your skill in the school in question, the difficulty of the spell, and your Fatigue when you cast it - so don't expect to succeed, especially early game.

Because of all this, it's best to have at least one weapon and armour skill (even if they're Hand-To-Hand and Unarmoured, though I'd recommend an actual weapon over just hth) to get you through the early levels and as a fallback later. Gotta survive to train those skills, right? On that note, learn some Restoration - Restoring your own attributes at the least, or get potions you can use in a pinch. (1/

>>338279921
If you roll a good character magic is nor particularly harder than anything else, is more tedious since there's no regeneration so you have to chug potions like a motherfucker.
A good character for a mage basically means an altmer or a breton. Dunmer is playable but you'll have a small magicka reserve.

As a recomendation I strongly advise against focusing on Destruction, since high level enemies have high reflect %.

For this reason, a Nightblade-style hybrid (not an actual Nightblade necessarily, I'm just using that as an example) might be the best way to start off the game - so you don't have to rely entirely on your magic.

The good news: Spellcasting is pretty damn powerful, with tons of utility from damage to Illusion to Jump, Levitate and Teleport. There's nothing as fun as leveraging about your enemies hurling destruction at them (or Levitating them to cripple their movement)
Alchemy and Enchanting are gamebreaking if you want them to be and still incredibly useful if you don't; custom potions for all your needs and as a backup to your restorative/utility spells. As your Enchanting grows, you can get more uses out of enchanted items and more charge from soul gems, and they range from useful (buffing, Intervention/Recall to save you a Spell) to massively damaging. On that note: do the first couple of Mages Guild quests (the ones you're not liable to have much trouble with) and then about when you move to your second questgiver (or before if you're feeling comfortable) it's a good idea to go do the first of the Telvanni quests, the Mouth quests - they're all relativity simple and they offer rewards that are very useful to a Mage character.

All in all: have fun, sera! Don't follow /everything/ I say as if it were Saryoni's Sermons, experiment and find your own way. That's what Morrowind is all about, after all. Good luck, anon.
Wow, that was a lot longer and I sound a lot preachier than I intended. Sorry, guys.

>>338281276
Yeah, it's a bit of an arcane process mechanically so until you get insanely high Speechcraft it can take a while because it depends a lot on the specifics of the NPC. Good news is, as long as you've got the gold to get them to bite /eventually/, you can just kill them and take it straight back.

>>

Easily.
>>
>>338283127
I don't know but it's annoying as fuck if you go for pure magic, since although you have insane conjuration spells (I think only purchaseable through Telvanni teachers, though), the IA is kinda wonky and your summoned creatures won't attack anyone even if he's hostile, not until he attacks you or viceversa, which can mean you dying isntantly when talking about advanced dwemer centurions or dremora lords.

Overall being a pure mage is the most powerful character possible in Morrowind, but not the fastest, a melee character with good gear will have less options but can hack away at everything without a care for reflects.

Morrowind still by far has the best UI out of all TES games. It's basically perfect and only problem is that elements get smaller at higher resolutions and that there's a finite number of icons for shit so they'll eventually end up repeating, preventing you from recognizing items on a glance.

Did the armor class influence magic cast chance? Also, what was the deal with acrobatics and athletics, I think you don't want it in either major or minor because it fucks up your leveling or something?

>Did the armor class influence magic cast chance?
No, armor doesn't affect anything, the only reason why a mage wouldn't want to wear armor is because it's heavy as shit if you don't ever increase your strength.
>Wasn't the system working in a weird way where you would want your prefered skills all to be set a minor or some shit?
Kinda, but since there's no autoleveling you don't need to minmax to make a competitive character, so you don't need to force yourself to study the system and micromanage your stat increases.
>>
>>338285871
Having athletics as a minor or major skill may cause you to level up too fast, since you are constantly increasing athletics by running. This gives you fewer points (except in Speed) to assign when leveling up.

To avoid that, you could use Madd Leveler, a mod that gives you only 3 attribute points in the level screen, but compensates it by automatically giving you an attribute point for every third skill point increase.

Also doesn't help that a good fraction of the mods now crash the game (and certain custom models have glitched infinitely-stretching limbs), likely due to old Bethesda updates I assume. A good combat-overhaul that adds more options would've been a nice start had I found one that works, and I'm unsure about total-conversions to the gameworld since I've tried only a couple minor examples.

On the side, there would've probably also had a fuckton of Fallout imports had Beth been more open, or Source/Gmod re-conversions had Gamebryo been a more-competent engine.

I'd like a mix of both, Daggerfalls labyrinthine dungeons are great for the work needed to be put in by the player to finish them. Yet I also liked the approach to dungeons Morrowind had, smaller but a lot of dungeons had a worthwhile reason for exploring them, due to the handplaced loot. Skyrim was step back in the right direction, it's a shame so many had such a linear layout.
