There were a lot of required minigames than I remembered after replaying it.
First time playing, I didn't know I could choose what stat I wanted to up, so I was a glass cannon who got killed by even one hit by the end of the game.

Sorry Op but super star saga game is not the best in the series. The other ones are clearly way superior than this one. Dream team had a hardmode to it. Bowser inside story had a great story and playing as bowser was awesome but his boss battles were too easy compared to mario and luigi. Partners in time is still my favourite ds game of all time

SSS only has the better overworld
PiT has the best villains and plot
Bowser's Inside Story has the best Protagonist and writing
Dream Team has the best production value and feels like a really high quality game
and Paper Jam has the best gameplay and bosses with the best streamlined feel with no backtracking fillers
Posting the best RPG Mario game to ever grace us with it's presence.

Attacks were slowed down to the point of a guaranteed EXCELLENT every attack, they took out Hardmode, no level-up roulette wheel for variety, starlow was in the game, """"Bros. Attacks"""" were still too long, Trio Attacks were fucking atrociously long, and the card system was fucking trash.But yeah I fucking loved the boss battles and the boss theme.
