It is more like quake than Doom, yes.
But how would you have done it? How can an FPS game stand in todays world without jumping or vertical gameplay?

But if you think about it, does it really matter? We got a solid FPS with classic, fast paced gameplay the likes of which we haven't seen in 15 years in a AAA game. It was so much fun to play, that I'll even go back and find all the secrets and finish it on nightmare.

Plus I actually like the multiplayer, so the price was worth it imho

I agree with this sentiment for the most part.

Quake was a natural evolution from DOOM1+2. Much later DOOM3 tried to differentiate the IP from what Quake had become. All D44M is is a really strong return to form, really.

What I really disagree with is the fucking MP. Fuck that skinner box shitfest. Fuck the map design. Fuck the loadouts.
