This. The tricky thing about writing this ending is that if you handle it wrong, it just comes across as you personally insulting the player for their investment in playing the game.
It's a lot easier to do in film and other mediums because nobody has to work towards the tragedy you're going to write. It's all part of the show.

Kingdom Hearts 358/2 has a bleak as fuck ending
Drakengard 3, Ending D if you read the extra content from the last DLC.Every single named character except the child dragon dies. The protagonist, the dragon's mother figure, saved the world, but to do so she had to kill the world leaders, leaving the general public in chaos and causing them to war over all sorts.
The child dragon is left without his mother figure, but goes on to survive until the end of the world, basically spending the rest of his unfathomably long life mourning her and seeing the entire world go to absolute shit.

Basically, you're the bad guy all along, the "bad guy" is just your actual soul, whilst you're an empty vessel to which the soul would eventually return, as are all other "people".
In Ending D your character gets erased from existence, meaning everyone who knew you forgets about you. The game actually goes ahead and deletes your save, whilst showing you all the shit you grinded for (you had to grind for every single weapon to even get this ending). As a final fuck you you can never create another character with the same name.
