The game needed the monsters to add variety to the combat imo. That's why they worked so well in Uncharted 2.
3 didn't use the Djinn enough and the Descendants were shit.

There has to be good reasoning though. 4 is a personal story, its more about Sam and Drake than the treasure, which is why having ghost pirates out of nowhere would've ruined it.

Not OP, but I appreciate it a lot when games toss up the enemy variety in the long run. A lot of people seem to prefer just humans and shooters, and that shit is boring as hell when it's in EVERY game.
I'm not just talking monsters showing up in a game with human enemies, either. When human soldiers show up as part of a coverup or something in a horror game, I actually love that, too.
