Can someone explain to me the linking of the fire process in DaS2?
Nashandra was pulling the strings by creating this fake curing the curse legend so she can ruse undead people into opening the Throne of Want. Why would she do that though? She's a child of Dark, so why would she want to access the throne and risk the undead to relit the flame? Why not leave it undisturbed and wait for Dark to arrive?

it's as if DaS2 was poorly written with an ending that made no sense until the rerelease where it then made a little sense, sort of.

What does the Throne even do? Who made it? Why was it more important than the fire itself? Why did Vendrick flee instead of killing Nashandra if he was essentially more powerful than Gwyn and the original lords themselves?

the throne is shaped like a Kiln, with it possibly being the Kiln of the First Flame, or at least connected to it somehow. In DaS3, Drangleic is stated as a land known for the Legend of Linking the Fire (Drang set), meaning that many Undead Linked there or at least re-enacted it symbolically with the Throne. In DaS2, more than 1 character states that becoming the true monarch entails linking the flame, but it doesn't do shit according to the Shield of Want's description in 3.
In other words no one fucking knows, DaS2 is basically just a sidestory anyway

At the very least, it gave us the whole immortality thing. It'd be pretty cool if the Bearer of the Curse was a boss in one of DS3's DLC's, just because the crowns let him live at peak condition for so long.

You all can try to be objective about it but personally, i read Dark Souls 2 as a failed attempt at symbologism and philosofy.
The name "Throne of Want" was not chosed at random. It represents desire. Nashandra covets power, insatiably, our character covets a cure, Aldia covets an answer. The whole game resolves around it.
As far as what how it all really works, i don't think it'll ever makes much sense. I think they went a little too deep into all those philosofical stuff and mismanaged the actual concrete stuff.
