Because mech are and will always be autistic (often weeaboo) sci-fi. Mobile Infantry Armor is the upper limit where battlesuits end and mechs begin. It's ridiculous in a modern setting anyway and tanks project the very image of modern, heavy hitting warfare.
I remember long matches of Red Orchestra driving in a tank with my two buddies as gunner and commander. Without good communication the tank was mediocre at best. With it we destroyed the battlefield and had plenty of those awesome immersive moments. Can't do that in a mech.

You're right about that. Reality shits all over mechs. When it comes to war you want efficient, functional things that kill your enemy while keeping you safe. Mechs are about being cool. They aren't as practical or as reliable as tanks. A mech is a much bigger target. A mech can fall over. It may be able to climb over a wall but a tank can just drive through the fucking wall.
