Its incredible to me how this series actually managed to become "So bad its good." 6 was a trainwreck in all aspects, but for some reason, its really enjoyable. The way I see it they have 3 possibilities.
They use new characters from Revelations, 6, and obscure games like Survivor to make a new story arc.
They go full reboot with the 25th/30th anniversaries, especially if the new mainline entries disappoint, since the characters will be in the 50s at that point anyway. Positive reception to REmake 2 makes them expand REmake 3 to include all three games as a new starting off point. A new Outbreak game gets released.
Nothing changes, maybe everyone gets an anti-aging virus.
