there's no such thing as an innocent mercenary dude, they'll kill you without a second thought for no better reason they are paid to. the game also states that Shoreline is sketchy as fuck and is a force made up of guys who were ejected from other militaries for war crimes.

I don't mind this, but there were plenty of problems with the Libertalia story, like "Why spend so much money setting up a way to vet the best pirate captains to recruit for founding your pirate country if you're just going to go and invite a bunch of random fucks to help settle it"
