Part of the success of Pokémon is being able to play your copy with someone nearby playing theirs. A console wouldn't allow that. However, if Pokémon network wasn't absolutely ass you could have a cross system game where you could access your Pokémon from the console on your 3DS. Like a stadium game but sharing data through cloud service.
