God that controller was so retarded.

You could only use the top method if you had some disgusting 9 inch fingers for the Z trigger.

Find me a kid's hands that are big enough to hold it top and reach the z button.

I had to. I've always had small princess hands.
This has got to be the controller of all time

The bottom picture is the proper way to hold it. There werent many games on n64 where you were CONTANTLY touching the dpad at all times. Maybe you would touch it every once in a while to change weapons or something but thats about it.

You can't play Turok the top way. waste of space.
Kids have small hands though

video games have been for kids for like 1% of the time
I really don't understand why people have so many issues with the controller. 3D was brand new at the time, there was no standardized control scheme for it and Nintendo wasn't sure if the analog stick was going to catch on.
So for 3D games, you use the middle and right prongs. And for 2D games and any other game that used the traditional control scheme at the time, you use the outer prongs. That was the point of having 3 prongs, to facilitate having the traditional control scheme as well as the 3D control scheme at the same time.
Why would you believe you needed to control 3 prongs at the same time?
