> In Blizzard’s Overwatch, the character cosmetic items can only be bought through in-game credits or luckily snagged through loot boxes. These unlockables vary from cosmetic skins, to alternate win poses, and spray logo designs. However, somebody managed to compute the number of player matches and loot boxes needed to collect all the current cosmetics in-game.
> According to Reddit user Hizin, an Overwatch player will need an estimate of 550 loot boxes and 5500 games to unlock all the current cosmetics in-game. Excluding the limited edition cosmetics, there are about “1170 unlockable cosmetics” accessible to the players.
> By computing with both factual and assumed data, Hizin’s brief research shows that players really need to invest at least a full year to playing Overwatch to achieve this goal.

I guess you could spend your hard earned money to buy loot boxes. Or better yet, play something like Battleborn where you can unlock everything in around two weeks of gameplay.

Some autists already got to well over level 300 (maybe even 400+) in the closed beta and the leveling system was active for like 3 months or something.
In the open beta you leveled even faster with the 20% group bonus and the free levels from 100-122, 200-222 etc.

You get gold along with items from boxes that yo ucan use to buy whatever you want. They probably should implement a way to cash in your unwanted skins for pure gold though, right now if you get a shit legendary skin it's just wasted.

Valve reduced the amount of modding you can do to Dota 2, most mods don't work now unless you're willing to risk a VAC ban.

They only let you make custom games because it makes them money. Gaben has gone full jew (or is disconnected enough from the development process that someone else went full jew) and thats coming from a guy that used to be quite the fan 3 or so years ago

CSGO is all about matchmaking 5v5
people can't idle in that, they lose ranks.
in TF2 you had to deal with people idling, idling servers became very very popular. and servers were filled with people wanting to trade.
it has toned down since then, but it was REALLY bad for a long long time.

also CSGO is a little different.
the skins that are worth shit are only in crates wich cost money, and people use the market place to trade.
TF2 had the trading for years without the marketplace iirc.

that's just an opinion. TF2 has lots of great maps, and also tools to make your own.

Overwatch will never have a mapmaker or modding tools. Ever. And it will never have custom servers with fun community gamemodes like VS Saxton Hale mode. Ever.
>>
>>337939805
>Even if you think it's fun now, there's no fucking content. At best, they'll release a couple of maps every year which you'll be bored of in days.

This was actually the biggest problem for me with OW I got bored pretty quickly in the beta because 2 game modes and only a few maps really take the fun out quick
And another problem was to many choke points in most maps, some maps really need other pathways for flanking because that shit can be infuriating having to go through a choke point and just immediately dying.
>>
>>337940442

you're grasping at straws. Just admit it's like no effort to get whatever new weapon comes out. If not being able to have it the minute it comes out is such a burden to you then pony up the $40 for Overwatch.

A game like this really needs restricted competitive ranked modes to obsess over or modding and community tools like TF2 had.

I played TF2 for so long because there was literally endless content to explore in custom maps. They were kinda ugly and awkward sure, but something always fresh made me feel like I was playign within a community rather than just another FPS. Obviously I strongly advocate for Overwatch to get some sort of modding tools...

On the other hand I'm sure Blizz will support Overwatch well, it just sucks that it'll be purely on Blizzard's timeline without the community being able to help.

Shouldn't the extra stuff like cosmetics be free since your paying $40 upfront or at the very least not take many matches to unlock?

You can bet your ass Blizzard or at the very least Activision will get greedy if this game is successful and will introduce DLC or other bullshit just like WoW did.

games have had unlockable content since the beginning. It's nothing about "these days"

It's a cosmetic choice. If you bitch over not being able to color your armor purple, then you're entitled to never play that game if it bothers you that much. People like unlockable things, and this is a good middle ground to fit the needs of many people.

Unlocking stuff never been a bad thing, people forgets that unlocking colors and shit isnt that strange, on the other hand there is the option to be a lazy fuck and unlock them with real money which is a ok thing also for people who cant play that much. If valve games had this system the cosmetics wouldnt have killed the community that much, but they were almost completly locked behind a paywall. The deal with this unlocks is that you get random from a loot box that doesnt need a key to be opened and are completly free just for playing the game without any RNG chances.

>Or better yet, play something like Battleborn
How is that better? that game is shit, and a waste of time too.

A grindfest does not make another game better. You need 1,375 hours to do everything? There are people who have played tf2 twice as much. The reasoning is both that cash from impatient fucks will keep the game going, and will incentivize players to keep playing as a way to have an active community, BattleBorn plans to have no one playing this time next week. Shit has LESS players than The Division.

progressing through maps =/= unlocking anything else

Going through levels is the game itself. That is the natural essence of moving forward through a game. Unlocks in the sense of cosmetics or other optional shit is not a linear experience.

that's exactly
what
they
are
doing

The game is fully playable for everyone day one, no pay2win and no "leveling up" to get invincible, but you can get cosmetics through progression without paying a cent or buying loot boxes.

Zelda gives you a second quest by beating the game. SMB2 has you unlocking entire extra worlds by beating the game in particular ways. Almost any fucking game on the planet gives you some thing or another by beating the game at least once. You have to beat a level to unlock the next. You have to beat the game to see the ending sequence.

You are literally cancer.

Wrong by your rule you should have acces to the last map just by pressing new game. Progression makes you unlock them.

How is gold awarded in loot boxes? Do they sometimes just give you a set amount or are they there replacing items you previously got?

I'm more hoping there are opportunities to get gold other than through loot boxes like potentially giving a reward for weekly brawls.

In Mario 64, unlocking powerups was about moving through the game and naturally introducing you to different gameplays so you can be ready to meet the new next mechanic along the way. It was built into the game's way of making the player naturally flow from level to level without overwhelming them with a large number of game mechanics right off the bat.

The unlocks you guys speak of have no effect whatsoever on the gameplay. They only exist to make you play the game longer

>playing the game for the year is already a good tool for Activision to force you to keep playing their game

The very fact that a lot of the characters are beautiful women is another factor. They know you guys will unlock their outfits for the waifu factor.

Just ignore him, he's either mentally retarded or baiting, and neither deserves the time of day.

gold is a random drop of random rarity just like any other item, and it ranged from 50-500 gold per drop
if you get a double, you get a small gold amount like 5-50 or something.

And you're a fucking idiot. You're equating unlocking a full level of gameplay to a fucking costume. One gives me an actual gaming experience. The other is something to make me a different color. You're retarded if you honestly believe these two are one and the same.

>THE COMPANY IS FORCING YOU TO PLAY THE GAME MORE! THEY'RE TRICKING YOU INTO GETTING MORE TIME FOR YOUR MONEY!
Stop, dude, this is pathetic.

>The very fact that a lot of the characters are beautiful women is another factor.
good lord, do you have no self control?
