The damage spells are much more important than the support spells. Having Yuna dip into the black mage spheres would have been infinitely more beneficial. Regardless, you can fix it by using a few of the support spheres, e.g. teleport, friend, magic, etc.

I have 99 of al bed potions, hi potions and pheonix downs from using rikku all the time. Mug stocks up my items fast. Really all I need there. Rikku basically plays healer / buffer and tidus and kamahri are damage.
The hardest part is the fact that only tidus's overdrive is usefull for damage. Kamahri's does less than rikkus auto attack and rikku's I use for buffs / last ditch full healing.

Rikku is literally best healer. Overdrive can apply protect, shell, reflect, and 5 levels of cheer, luck, aim and focus on your party. She also gets multiple turns before the enemy gets another turn due to absurd agility.
Al bhed potions can heal for 2k to everyone with an item you get from a chest before the 3rd seymore fight. And you always have a shit load of items because of steal and mug.

Wakka is the religious man, almost fundamendalist. Rikku is of the heathen al bhed and uses machina which can be seen as an allusion to science/technology. That's something I've enjoyed about this game. Some bosses have unique ways to beat them, or have other cool mechanics that spice it up from the average damage sponge/adamantium chiangun combo that some games have.
