There are ideas but yes there are only those two at the moment. Things were tried but we decided to scrap them. For instance team deathmatch was a game mode at one point on different variations of the maps. We decided that team based objectives were the way forward.

I haven't played Evolve, but I've seen some videos of the pre-match conversations and that seems like something Overwatch could benefit from.
As it stands, the game itself barely even explains the premise. You'd never know that the characters have actual backstories and connections unless you sought out the extra media or read the flavor text on the website.

Not really getting this, there's plenty of white men in the game. In fact, there's a lack of people from other backgrounds such as sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia, a few eastern European countries, the Inuit, and a few more. In a game that takes place all around the world, having most of the cast be white men would be something of a disservice to exploring other cultures through this sort of near future lens they are doing if they are from the same countries.
