Yes it is real. The game doesn't show all those UI elements most of the time, but it's still a visual clusterfuck, not just because of the tons of useless info on screen, but also design-wise. Game's a mess.
At this point Battleborn is just trying to use this line to get more attention for themselves

Other stuff is not so easy, I remember constantly walking into Thorn's and some other traps because I disregarded them as friendly in the midst of a battle. Considering how much shit there's on the screen it's really easy to make that mistake.

I agree with what he said, not really how he said it. This battleborn ui looks like this for about 2 secconds of the game when everyone hits lv 5. The overwatch image has no ui. When looking at real overwatch health and skills are placed in the same spots as battleborn, its never as cluttered as battleborn but then again there as not as much shit you might want to keep an eye on in overwatch compared to battleborn

I went into it very optimistic with the plan to actually beta test it, but the more I played and the more I heard the devs talk I realized how utterly terrible the game will be.
Really, I actually paid for early access to help them fix the game and I gave up on it. I say this as someone that has played or tried most MOBAs, including dead ones like Infinite Crisis.
If that doesn't tell you what a sorry state the game is in I don't know what will. The game is gonna flop megahard.

Played the Battleborn beta and it's was meh. Not terrible, just kind of boring. Gameplay was kind of clunky and the humour was cringy as fuck.
The Overwatch beta was much more fun. It actually felt fast and lively and you could see the polish.
Both were betas so take it for what it is, but personally I think Overwatch > Battleborn.

I absolutely hate push the cart gametypes and I hate King of the Hill in all games that aren't Perfect Dark or Halo, so I did not enjoy Overwatch much.

Not him but here's my reasoning.
Abilities don't synergize well in Battleborn. Everybody feels like they are playing their own game rather than as a team. I've never encountered something where two different people use their abilities in conjunction to do something. This makes the game feel less like a team game (which is what it should be) and more like 5 people who happen to be on the same team running around doing whatever. In Overwatch, you constantly see people working together and trying to use their abilities together in order to push objectives. Certain characters inherently complement others as well, leading to team composition being much more important and making the game more team focused.
As a result, Battleborn feels very boring. There is less emphasis on the team which is an inherent flaw of the design of their characters. Since the game is so objective focused, it's a bad thing that your team composition ultimately doesn't matter as much when no two characters synergize well with each other. It's the same issue SMNC had, which this game feels very similar to, and that ultimately led to it's failure.

What's wrong with it? It's pretty much exactly the same as Overwatch's. You have the match status in a small bar up the top, notification popups in the middle, your character portrait and health in the lower-left along with secondary information (special weapons in OW, money in BB), and your skills, ammo, and cooldown status in the lower right. Overwatch puts your ult status in the bottom-middle of the screen at all times, while BB leaves that spot clear unless you have a skill point pending.
The only real difference is that BB has the minimap in the upper right while OW doesn't have one. Both HUDs even have a mix of opaque and translucent elements.
