Longer missions, bigger rooms and more enemies mean you more likely to die in an unexpected way, and each death also sets you back further than before. In Hotline Miami 1, dying meant you had to re-kill five people. In Hotline Miami 2, dying means you have to re-kill twenty. Add in windows, reduced melee speed, and the increased focus on combo, and dying becomes a much more frustrating affair than in the original game
It's still a good game, it's just that its flaws tend compound on each other to make it not quite as satisfying as the original. The first game is really tight in almost every way, while the second is big and sloppy. I enjoyed it, played it all the way through, immediately played all the way through hard mode then went back to playing normal to get A+s, but there were times when I found myself actually getting angry at the game. The first game is for everyone, the second is for gluttons for punishment.
