The problem is that gaming journalists rarely actually play games, they are young people who studied journalism and take any chance they can get to make a name of themselves.
Hence videogames, a hobby that has attention of a large portion of consumers and not as difficult to work with as other markets.

Polygon released a 30 minute gameplay video where it took them that long to get through the first five minutes of the game. The person who was playing played as bad as handing your dad the controller, who's never played video games before.
The joke is that whoever played the game would have a similar feeling about the controls as when they were first introduced in 2000, but it's 2016.
