How important is character models to you in video games?

Art style matters, graphics do not. However, if the art style you're going for is realistic, then graphics become very important.
I'd prefer 2D and an actual art style rather than 3D and "realism".
Xenoblade should have just had the Overworld/Map and Mech Transport. It suffers from it's fucking garbage character models and open world memeshit.

Depends on what you mean exactly. Enough polish that everything works seamlessly (at least up to your intended goal)? Sure. The absolute highest-end Crysis/Uncharted levels of detail? Nah.

My main issue is that people associate graphical fidelity with hurr durr realism. People defend WoW's graphics with "But it's the artstyle." That's fine if you like that, but if they upped the fidelity it would give the artists more opportunities to show off the artstyle

I don't care about realistic looking models right now, when they start animating corners cut, mistakes and oversights of the artists become more apparent. This is probably why games with realistic models tend to be walking simulators, or lack gameplay. If a game has realistic models I tend to avoid it, however there are games that have decent models that aren't very realistic.
It's important when they look like creepy anime dolls. I don't have a Wii U, but if I did I still wouldn't consider buying that crap based solely on that.
