So guys I'm getting a PS3 to play some old games I missed out on from the past few years.
Last time I bought it I had the pic related and I liked it a lot more than the original one.
Looking around I noticed there's an even slimmer one, yet very ugly looking.
I was wondering what would be the best version to get?
I know every variation always has it's pros/cons.
It's also kinda harder to look around and find them without shopping online and buying them new/used.
I do still have my PS3 controller with the cord to plug into the system along with an HDMI cable as well, but I just don't have the original system anymore.

The newest "Super Slim" is the shittiest version. Built like a toy, least everything (ports, leds, BW support...), impossible to hack.

The OG Slim is arguably the best choice for just playing (PS3/PSN) games. If you get an earlier version, it's pretty easy to hack, and even rough but working PS2 BW-support can thus be modded in. But even in its legit, vanilla form, it's a good package.

The only reason to look for the original Fat versions of PS3 would be the built-in backwards compatibility with PS2 discs. In USA, it was done via PS2 chip, but Sony already started cutting corners to save cash during EU's launch, replacing the EmotionEngine with simple in-house PS2 emulation software. I have PAL 60GB Fat console, and most games work OK on it, while some have varying issues (lighting / texture glitches, framerate drops....), and some don't launch at all (like Project Zero 2).

That being said, the PSN Store re-releases of PS1/2 classics tend to work pretty much perfectly. Also, ALL PS3 console versions run PS1 discs.

Get a 360 instead

This anon sums it up well. As long as ps2 games aren't a requirement, then the old slim is the best way to go.

This is a good idea if you are only planning to get multiplats and don't care about exclusives. The 360 version of multiplat games tend to look and run better a lot of the time.

Due to planned obsolesce alone, I'd buy a super slim. Just be sure to ELEVATE it off a flat surface, due to the "cooling" fans being at the very bottom of the thing, turning it into a self-cooking oven.

I already have a 360.
I need a PS3, so fuck you.

Make sure to get a 21XX model then. It's arguably the best one since it's still hackable (use a E3 Flasher to downgrade), low power consumption, and any 21XX model is guaranteed to be downgradable. It's also less prone to YLOD.

Same shit plus get a wired controller and you're set to go

The "fat can play ps2 games" is a meme. Only a very few runs of the original fat models can.

My 60GB fat cannot, for example.

it's not a fucking "meme" if it's a legit fucking FACT for the release versions. And by the time the PS2 support was cut, Slim was already on its way.
>>
If I get that Slim with 320 gigs used for about 120 bucksish, is that a good deal?
Not that newest Slim, but like the one I posted in >>337687227
>>
>>337693664
Try get the price down to $100
>>
>hacked my 3ds
>no need for my physical copies anymore
>go to gamestop and trade all my games, only paying 40 bucks for a ps3

who /scumbag/ here?
>>
>>337692846
>My 60GB fat cannot, for example
Considering the 60GB model of the PS3 had the PS2's hardware built in, that sounds like a personal problem. Or you're European, who probably got fucked on launch PS3s.

>The "fat can play ps2 games" is a meme
how retarded, memes have frozzled your mind so much that you think everything is a meme.
original PS3's had backwards compatability
>>
>>337695517
>>337695439
There are many fats without ps2 compat. You guys don't know what you are talking about
>>
>>337695786
Sure, but the 60GB and 20GB models weren't of that ilk. Earlier 80GB SKUs had limited PS2 backward-compatibility based on software emulation, but units released after 2007 eschewed it entirely.
