I played this part a couple of days ago. Somebody else says that the captain was an idiot and didn't make proper deals with the Skellige clans. He got permission from the An Craite or something, but he sailed past someone else's territory and was raided by them.

This really wouldn't have been too hard to fix. Either have Geralt get teleported or throw in a line from Crach implying that he'll provide better protection in the future. In that case they wouldn't even have to show it happening.

The real elephant in the room as far as immersion and believability is gold rewards from sidequests. It's almost always 20-60 crowns. I can kill a bandit and sell his shitty wooden mace for like 150.
Best example: there's a quest to remove a haunting from an arena. The owners are extremely happy and promise a cut of the earnings after one week. (One of the owners is a little hesitant at giving out such a big reward.) Come back in a week, business is booming, there are tons of spectators and plenty of fighters. Your reward: 20 crowns.

I hate that they spent a whole 50 hours building up an imminent epic battle and then when it happens its just geralt knocking down a few "warriors" weaker than standard bandits and kicking the shit out of their leader by attacking and then side stepping.
