I'm new to Dark Souls and just started DS1.

I'd heard that unkindled bonfires only give up to 5 Estus recharges, but I was standing idle next to the one in the Undead Burg and randomly gained another one. I chilled there a bit longer and it eventually recharged to 10.

I can't find anything about this on Google. Am I doing something in particular to make this happen or can you just wait around at every bonfire and recharge to 10 like this?
>>
someone else kindled the fire and you happened to be nearby
>>
You get +1 estus when someone rates a message you've left

I just started last week, anon. Enjoying it very much even though only just defeated Bell Gargoyles

QTDDIOT: I've noticed when roaming around for periods of time my humanity counter increases by itself - what's the deal here?
>>
>>337671584
You gain "soft" humanity by killing enemies.
>>
make sure to spend at least half your souls on resistance.
>>
>>337671876
At the very least. The latter half of the game becomes straight up artificial difficulty if you level a useless stat like endurance instead.
>>
>>337671784
Thank you! That's good to hear, especially when I know I'll be playing through a lot of areas multiple times if I fail bosses and the like.

Currently going from Firelink to Andre to upgrade my black knight great sword. Character looks boss carrying that fucking thing.
>>
>>337671876

>>
>>337671584

The soft humanity system is a bit wierd. Killing numerous enemies in an area where you have not yet killed the boss will add points to an invisible counter. When full, it will add a humanity to your bank.
>>
>Just started playing DS1 as well
>After struggling with him, finally get the second black knight down and he drops his sword
>Get the stats to use it
>Spend hours plowing through new areas, black phantoms, bosses, etc

Gargoyles, Moonlight Butterfly, Capra, and Quelaag down, and I got them down usually in 1 or 2 tries.

I'm digging this sword.
>>
>>337672505
You basically unlocked the ezmode. There are a couple of weapons like that in DaS.
>>
>>337672581
To be fair, I was doing pretty well with the Zweihander too, and upgraded far enough it'd probably be on par with the Black Knight Greatsword.

Still, its kind of nice having something with 280+ base damage at level 30.
>>
>>337672684
I don't think it's a bad thing, it's pretty fun to play the game like that.
>>
>>337672505
When I got the black halberd the game got super easy for me
>>
>>337668265
There is one specific bonfire that is kindled already, so it gives you 10, the rest of them you have to kndle them yourself.
Have fun with it anon! its a great game
>>
>>337672715
It's been pretty fun, yeah. Every time I've died it's either been to bullshit or something dumb I did. Its less about numbers and more about timing now, because with how slow the sword is I have to use it carefully.

>>337672756
I actually had the halberd drop for me too. Played around with it and it seems like a better weapon, but the greatsword is just satisfying. Especially on invaders; crushing them into the dirt or throwing them into the air is lovely.

Best DaS1 weapons are the black knight halberd and the standard mace. Prove me wrong, fags.

Blighttown the first time and the Bell Gargoyles was where I hit a huge wall when the game first came out. Other than that the game wasn't that bad. I just got used to it. I played Demon's Souls first so that helped too.

Some parts like Bed of Chaos gave me trouble as well but that part is just poorly designed and not actual difficulty.

Probably the obstacle that I spent the most time on was when I got cursed in Blight town and I had no idea how to get rid of the curse and I had nothing to remove the poison. Combine that with still being pretty shit at the game it took me a long time to get out of there.

>played through all series with strength builds

I feel really bad for people who picked magic on their first play through. I know some of it is the fact that I've played it before, but I doubt anyone who played a magic character could have had as much fun as a melee character, because how can you feel accomplished when the game is so easy and short?

Why does everyone say the Gargoyles are a wake up call?
They are easy mode with Solaire. I've never died to them.
The boss that took me the most attempts the first time was Asylum Demon.Because i had no idea how the game was supposed to be played. The Git gud meme is real.

Overall my hardest bosses are O&S (now that's a wake up call), and the DLC ones. Gwyn is easy if you can parry.

Which move could cause that from BK greatsword? I also have it after it dropped from the one in Undead Asylum revisit and I'm trying to make it work but fast enemies/bosses are messing me up, still relying on backstabs with it.

Magic in DaS is very ez mode.
The only downside is that you need to go all in to get the benefits.
You should be dealing 1500-2000 damage with each Soul Spear on bosses.

Dusk Crown also works for Pyromancies and Miracles.

In terms of linearity, Bloodborne is a lot higher on the list of the series, with probably 3 at the top. In the actual levels themselves they play out a lot like the first game, demons souls, in that they are pretty big with shortcuts to connect them instead of bonfires like in 2 or 3. However, they are generally self contained and don't interconnect like in Dark souls 1.

Gargoyles, by yourself, have you learn spacing, how to handle two enemies with ranged attacks, how to rush one before the other arrives, and so on.

Wrong sword senpai. Black knight sword. I know you love the raw damage from that weapon but its the slowest swinging greatsword in the game. Black knight greatsword is an ultra greatsword you cant really get till endgame, also ass. If you like the moveset try the bastard sword (fastest swinging) or the claymore for its thrusting atk.

I'm already sick of how linear Dark Souls 3 is.

I honestly don't think I had too much of a problem with anyone.

Orn and smough went down first try. Capra went down like a sack of shit. Nito got shit on. Seath got fucked.

Bed of chaos was the only boss I had to make more than 2 runs on, and I think I ended up doing it in like 10.

I remember getting on the general and being so proud that I fucked eener and orn the first try, and I showed my build.

If I'm not mistaken each time your message is rated your health is restored. It was like this in Demon's Souls for sure and I believe Dark Souls 1 and 2 and Bloodborne do this as well. I could be mistaken though, and I have no idea about Dark Souls 3.

It was especially bad near launch of Demon's Souls. Actual useful messages would get maybe 10 or 20 ratings. Then there was a message that said something along the lines of "I'm in trouble! Please rate this message!" and I shit you not it got thousands of ratings. I think I remember seeing one with over ten thousand. That guy must have gone through the whole game constantly getting healed for free. Allant could be doing a combo on him and he'd get fully healed mid-combo. It's a neat system but the Demon's Souls community was awfully weird about it.

Having only played it for the first time recently, the only bosses I had trouble with were;
The Bell Gargoyles, because I was new.
The 4 Kings, because I was under-geared & under skilled.

Aside from that, I bodied most of the other bosses straight off or after a couple of tries.

There's the Knight Slayer's Ring you can get from an invader in the Catacombs. It causes extra stamina damage when you hit their shield. Although it's not really worth wasting a ring slot for, Usually it's worth waiting or kicking to break their shield.

Some weapons to deal with shields are anything with bleed and those curved swords whose name I can't remember. Lautrec used them.

Also, check out what your weapon's weapon art is. Almost all straight swords have a shield breaker.

You should also git gud at parrying. You can get a lot of damage from it, especially against sword and board knights like 90% of the DS3 players

Alternatively just use a big fuckoff mace or club. Couple of hits with that and their shield goes down

Bloodborne is kind of its own thing, but I think it's the best one. For the Dark Souls games, go

In Dark Souls 1 there are so many things I can do right from the start, I can sprint for the gravelord sword, dragon head stone, great scythe, and tons of other stuff before even fighting a boss but in 3 it's very, very linear for quite some time.

I feel like the nonlinearity of DaS 1 was an accident.

1 and 2 both allow you to go to different places to get different weapons from the start if you're after a specific sort of build. Good luck doing that in 3
>>
>>337684752
Why? They take items like the orange charred ring/covenant of artorius off you in NG+ so they obviously account for the fact you can get to these areas extremely early in the game, and the lord soul boss doors are sealed until you get the lord vessel for the same reason, and being able to go from firelink to so many places suggests to me the nonlinearity was very intentional

never liked the "open world" in DaS1

as cool as it is, you realize quite fast you get your shit kicked in no matter where you go on your first playthrough so you take the only available path

it becomes quite unbalanced later on since you don't know what level and gear you should have when you go to certain zones

in my eyes the game suffered quite a deal from that and DaS3's progression is way more smooth and enjoyable.

probalby nobody cares but just to clarify I got into the catacombs very early on because you can just bypass the skeletons and kick them off the ledges to kill them even without a blessed weapon

how were you supposed to know you shouldn't be going there at the beginning or a few hours into the game? you can easiliy kill all the skeletons in the beginning with the Morning Star

thats just terrible game design in my eyes and I'm glad they changed their mind, had to crawl out of this shithole because obviously at the bottom there is no way to kick the skeletons of the edges and I didn't even know I was so close to the boss that would kill these ressurecting fuckers

Being hollow doesn't really matter, normal invasion is basically dead unless you go to hotspots.
That being said the game gives you 30 to 50 humanities per playthrough if you explore a bit, and the game should last you about 45-50 hours.
Take that as you will

What's different?
On ng they're 6/10

they are just much tougher. More HP and DMG and from what i noticed, they cast more spells. I only beat them after i made a lightning Zwei.

Do you still need external tools on DS1 to connect to anyone at all, or is it fixed?

These are all wrong.
It's based on your luck stat.
Like a drop after you kill an enemy, you get an estus. >>337680478

Are these still people who drop summon signs on DaS1?
I tried playing it years ago and got lost in Blighttown and never picked it back up again, but after finishing both 2 and 3 I want to finish the first.
I'm just making sure if I can't gitgud then I can be a summoningbaby.
