Played 3 PSX games a few months ago.
Crash 3 is still an amazing game, that Bruce Willis game was fun, spyro was boring as shit.
It depends on the game, if it was fun back in the 90s and had good controls it's good now, if it had some kind of problem back then, it's gonna be much worse by today's standards.

I literally downloaded CTR yesterday.
In my opinion the best era of gaming was the PS2 era. So many unique titles with different gameplay. There was so much creativity.
There are great games coming out today too but not as often, I feel.
Publishers love to do the safe thing and rehash their games until people stop buying them. (which they never seem to do)

It's just the way things are. AAA game development is so fucking expensive, and the big companies don't want to make what they perceive to be small or indie games because that would hurt them. Graphics are everything to them.

I played a ton of games on my PS1 when I was a kid, and I love my PS4 now. I'm 23.
Some PS1 games were godlike, like Symphony of the Night, Rayman and Crash Bandicoot, Metal Gear Solid, etc.
Many were amazing, but don't really stand the test of time like Tekken 1 and Resident Evil 1 and are remembered fondly even though they've aged very poorly.
Some straddle this line, like Final Fantasy 7, which plays fantastically but looks like total garbage.
The overall quality of games as a whole has gone up immeasurably since the PS1 days, but the problem you're likely having is that it's so much harder to have your mind blown these days because we don't have as much obvious room for growth as we did back then.
