EoSD, PCB, IN, or MoF are all good games to start off the series. DDC is fine too. Get good by unlocking stage practice and using it until you can consistently do each stage with a low number of deaths.
A secondary is someone who hasn't played the games and only knows Touhou through secondary/derivative (non source) material.

It's the hardest Touhou to 1cc on normal (aside from maybe LoLK). You need to route it a bit more than the other games, and generally has denser patterns.

Best Touhou to start with is the 6th, Embodiment of the Scarlet Devil because it doesn't have any weird mechanics that later games have, Just good old fashion bullet hell.
The 7th, Perfect Cherry Blossom is also a good place to start and is much better the EoSD but I stand by my earlier suggestion.

It's not that much harder than the rest of the games. The mechanical dodging skill required is about the same IMO, it's just that you have to know how some spellcards or stage portions work or you're gonna have a bad time. Took me about 20 hours to clear UFO on normal. Then another 20 to clear SA on normal.

I always say 9 because that was my first bullet hell and I loved it, but it's kind of a black sheep. 7 is the most forgiving "normal" Touhou.

Play a lot. The photography games and 9 are good for raising your skill level because you don't have to keep clearing the easy crap to get to hard stuff.

Stay away from SA, UFO and LoLK if this is the first time you play a shmup because SA and LoLK are the hardest in the series and UFO has an odd gimmick which might be too distracting for a first timer.
