You get the black dude in the Hellfighter pack, and there was a black regiment called the Harlem Hellfighters who saw more combat than any other regiment in the entire war.
If anything, it makes the most sense that a Hellfighter is America's representative, because it allows them to explore more combat scenarios while staying true to history.

It's not as extreme as that but only around 100,000 Americans died total while the allied total death toll is something like 6 million. Centering the campaign on any US soldier seems pretty disrespectful when you consider twelve times as many people died in the Battle of the Somme alone.

No, don't think of it that way. DICE is not required to represent all of WW1. The campaign is only telling a relatively short story (only five missions) from a small facet of WW1. No matter what story they make, it will ALWAYS disproportionately represent some aspect of the war and ignore the vast majority of it. Affirmative action does not apply to video games, characters do not have to 100% proportionally represent the demographics of a certain population, especially when the sample size of characters is so small. Now why should black characters be explicitely excluded?

And that eastern front was propped up by western supplies, strategic bombing, and several side theaters to keep the Germans from ever deploying their full might against the Soviet Union. Hell even the surrendered western powers contributed by having so many god damn troops tied up in occupational duties (thousands of Germans who could have been fighting are instead stuck watching a railway station in case Pierre or Olaf try to pull some shit).

When will one of these companies have the balls to weave a story from the side of the Axis or Central powers? Perhaps a WWII game from a Nazi perspective, or a lowly Japanese soldier. You could have gripping scenes like playing the first(and final) mission of a Kamikaze pilot as he clutches a photo of his wife before crashing into the side of a carrier in the Pacific. Maybe a German soldier who deserts in North Africa and seeks to escape to the sea, only to realize the war is almost over and he may not have a home to go back to.
