I was in closed beta since August. Can confirm that this game is low skill ceiling bullshit. You just don't realize it until you've played the game and understand the characters, the meta and the flow of the game.
The most beneficial thing about the open beta for Blizzard is that everyone only got to play while they were freshly hyped and didn't have the game knowledge, playing against complete shitters. They are going to get so many sales as a result of that. People aren't going to realize they've made a mistake until it's too late.

It actually funny, Overwatch came at the right time now that TF2 is all but dead (compared to number in its prime), so I feel Blizzard capitalized on it. Switching heroes doesn't solve the problem with Point A of Volskaya Industries you idiot. The only heroes who can use the the left most back alley over the water is Reaper/Genji/Tracer/Pharah/Dva and Mercy with a Pharah. i can already tell just from playing 2 free weekends. i only tried out a few characters but it seemed like effectiveness on the team scaled negatively with skill ceiling. so someone like mccree, one of the only ones that plays like an actual FPS game, could only be marginally helpful at best.
teamwork seems way more important than in TF2. which is a good thing sometimes but makes pubbing a nightmare. blizzard has generally approached game design this way, probably because of their RTS roots, and the attention to the macro elements of a fight even though you were playing a single "unit" is one of the things that made WoW so good and refreshing back in 2004. as a single unit in overwatch, though, there's much less you can do in the actual playing of the game. i honestly have no motivation to learn all the meta and all the characters just so i can pick whatever the team is missing... and then still lose because shitters are running low tier worthless characters so they can grind skins or whatever.
i can see it being really, really fun if you have an arranged team with good communication, but i'm to old to have enough friends to gather up regularly to play that way.

I mean, if you want to shit on Overwatch you can at least laud FPS games worth playing. TF2 is an utter shitshow and has been for the entirety of its lifespan. Simply having to manually rocket jump in itself doesn't "add more depth". Functionally you're doing the same thing, you launching yourself into the fucking air. The perk of Rocket Jumping over Pharah's jump jets is that Rocket jumping is more flexible, Pharah actually has very poor horizontal mobility as her jump jets only carry her upward. That combined with the fact that she actually needs to aim makes her far less braindead strong than Soldier is.
