my last graphics card was a HD 6850 and the fan fell off and could not be reattached. The plastic holding the screw in just...melted or something I have no idea what happened. I managed to get more life out of the card by mixing thermal paste and super glue, but eventually I just built a new pc with a 980ti
Not going back any time soon either, but I'm no Nvidia loyalist. I'd just need some reassurance that my hypothetical AMD card won't do what my last one did, I mean shit all I did was play WoW, FFXIV, and shit like DMC3 special edition and sonic generations. nVidia on the other hand focuses more on software, their hardware is not a slouch, but they decided to offload some functions to software.
It's a pity that there're just two major manufacturers of PC video cards (if you don't count Intel and some professional stuff). Amount of other parts manufacturers declined too, like HDDs. Was more fun back in the day when everyone and your cat made hardware.

They actually improved the performance on AMD compared to the alpha/beta, it's just that Nvidia has improved far more.
It's an OGL game, which has ALWAYS favoured Nvidia, just look at past id games.
Plus the single player uses higher quality assets (also extra graphical settings are unlocked compared to the alpha and beta) than the mp.
If you leave the 60 fps cap on like it was in the preview versions, it runs almost identical on every $300+ card.
