Whats better-- the video game or the card game?

The actual games are more fun. The card game is entertaining, but doesn't really follow the series in the wa some mechanics should work.

>main games
Comfy as fuck single player, but multiplayer game requires tedious as fuck breeding just to get your ass whooped by RNG.

>TCG:O
Meta destroyed by EXs to the point that you literally can't evolve Pokémon to the third stage anymore without getting destroyed first. Deck building takes either lots of time or money, and you still get whopped by even more RNG.

TL;DR both are objectively shit but why can't I stop loving them so much?
>>
Even if the TCG is the cheapest card game to get into and has a meta that pretty much gets stirred up every couple of months with each passing set, the mainline video games are a much more accessible means and doesn't always require two people to do shit.

Both are sort of in a slump at the moment. I found mainline Gen 6 lackluster and we're leaving it behind with a wimper, and PCL right now are hellbent on making what are essentially blatant reprints of older cards. Stage 2s aside from Crobat and Gallade also aren't that viable due to how fucking fast the game is now.

>Haven't played the TCG in months
>Check the price of VS Seekers

Holy shit.
>>
>>337525834
>Pokemon-EX

That's cute
>>
The card game was far better back in the old days, now it's just a "collect the pretty cards" card set
>>
This card makes me smile every time

Where do I buy the neo series packs for a decent price?

Im literally winning state regionals with a bunnelby deck for one year or so. Its fun.

Nigga have you seen the current meta? Greninja and Night march are the shit now.
>>
You know, I think I would still play Pokemon TCG if I knew anyone else my age that did it. I played it a fuckton when Pokemon was super popular, going to my local Pokemon League because I was a gym leader.

>>
>>337524962
TCG is a more engaging complex experience which can be both bad and good depending on what you are looking for. Video game is cheaper and more accessible so that contributes to its popularity too. If you want a rare strong pokemon in the game you just farm that shit. If you want a bunch of good cards you're gonna have to pay money.
>>
>>337526757
Not him but I haven't caught up with the past few sets. In what ways did BREAKpoint change up the meta and has Generations even got worthwhile non-reprints?

Have people figured out what to do with Fates Collide yet as of recently, too? I heard the Lucario was pretty good.

>>337527221
Archie's Blastoise was kinda neat. In Expanded you can use Maxie to bring in the Archeops that cockblocks all evolution provided Garbodor isn't already cockblocking you, and in Standard you can use him to bring in Gallade who is like a free Pokedex every turn, complete with a competent attack for DCE.
>>
>>337527183
Depending where you are you can just bring you deck out and inspire more people to play.

The TCG changes every few months.

Meanwhile the Pokemon games pretty much stagnated after HeartGold/Soul Silver.

To be fair, that's not that much compared to the better cards of MtG or YGO.

I think Shaymin-EX will get an inevitable reprint of its regular ROS art which would likely also bring down the value of the FA card.

God forbid Seismitoad-EX gets a reprint

It's still a children's card game, so yes

Not many coin flip cards are used competitively though
>>
>>337528068

Yep, coin flips are still in the game.

>>337527836
>God forbid Seismitoad-EX gets a reprint.

It already has one in Japan, but we still have no idea if the set it's from is going to be released internationally.

Everyone is frustated with the meta. Night March only gets stronger each set, item lock is still good, too many viable decks yet with no space to shine. TPCi lost sense of direction since the rayquaza set, too.
>>
>>337528801
i always thought the pokemon tcg as a way of playing pokemon without electricity.

Nobody likes RNG shit for card games anyway.

Are decks with long setup like BLS and MetaNite viable? I never liked T2 dunk decks that entirely relied on your starting hand. I loved intricate decks where you loaded Gardervoir d Ex DF with Meganium d DF and Altaria Ex DF to load Alakazam Star CG and surprise the opponent with a Salamence Ex PK or Infernape LvX DP.
>>
>>337530829
Yes. Vileplume locks items around the board. Toad locks their items with an attack, Trevenant locks their items with an ability when active, Giratina locks stadiums, special energy and tools, and Archeops locks evolutions with an ability. Each of these decks are top tier or close in their metas.
>>
>>337530709
TCGs have these bursts of groups playing a card game in a town that come and go.

>>337530829
Donking is pretty much impossible now because you cannot attack on the first turn of the game anymore (barring two cards in the current meta, Latios-EX is the only one that damages) and the card that could (a Shiftry) in Expanded got banned.

There are many locking cards currently around, but there are also some popular decks which hit hard very fast but risk getting burned out too quickly
>>
>>337531124
Archeops isnt standart.

Are any of these good? I bought a few packs the other day because of nostalgia and got these from it.

Also holy shit, Pokemon cards are crazy god looking now, and you get so many holographics per pack. I almost want to get back into buying them, because the rush of opening a pack was one I long forgot.

>>
>>337532464
Remember that Generations is a one-off

Because you can only buy them in bundles, they're much more generous as a result

Legendary Treasures from Gen 5 is also generous at first but the cards are not worth shit
>>
>>337532734
whats the deck?
>>
>>337533138
Mega Gardevoir + Aromatisse from X&Y Base Set is what I think he's talking about

You can run max potions and never worry about losing energy because you can just shift it all off with Fairy Transfer, then heal and put them back on in the same turn

That Mega Charizard is still worth around 30 dollars though. Used to be 50 when the set was rare, not so much now.
>>
>>337533775
That doesn't mean we still can't get sick cards though, every modern set as of now has full art cards for both Pokemon and Supporters. It'll just be harder.

What was the best TCG meta, /v/?

DP-SF was definitely fun.
>Pre-Claydol era
>Starve the opponent with Honchcrow MT + Absol SW because lolno draw
>Post-Claydol era
>Force the opponent to switch his Claydol to active with Warp point
>Enjoy every moment of him trying to make the decision whether to waste two turns to pay the retreat cost or waste a DRE.
Sometimes only sniping Claydol was enough to win the game.

you could always try out the cardgame videogame.
