Were there any references to "anti-aug" movements in the original Deus Ex?

Nope. And why would there be? Why would anyone hate another person with augs in the real world?

Yes actually, everyone in the game hated anyone with augs and the history mentioned an uprising of augmented people

I don't think there were references to specific named anti aug movements, but it is implied that the NSF itself is kind of anti aug up to a degree, as even its own soldiers see you as a "freak", not to mention the common population. Hell, even UNATCO soldiers make references to you having "no feelings" because of the augs, same for the mech augs. There's definitely a prevalent anti-aug aura in the game's setting, but it is mostly supplementary to the game's anti-corporatocracy message, it doesn't stand on its own as the main story like it does in HR or like it will in MD.
>>
no, deus ex touched a bit on people with outdated mechanical augs vs nano-auged people like jc ten-ton

>carries around this dumb fucking parental permission slip saying the glasses aren't recording anything ever they're just for science
>people get pissed off at him when he tries to go in a museum with no photography allowed, they let him in despite complaints
>he wears them into a McDonalds where people ask him to stop wearing them because he might be recording people
>"dont worry guys I'm not recording anyone"
>they dont believe him, they try to pry the glasses off of him
>"I was assaulted just because of my google glasses! Luckily, I was recording them, so here's the video my google glasses took"

That guy was an asshole looking to cause problems

>>

What point were you trying to make? All I see is you just admitted people baselessly attacking him for an assumption they made about his actions solely because he was wearing them

This is exactly the point, you moron, why glass is and will cause problems. Also there has been more than one case, it's not hard to see it will keep happening because people will keep being careless with it.
>>
>>337525505
If you're out in public, you have no reasonable expectation of privacy (unless you enter a bathroom).

You can't assault someone just because you don't like what they're doing, that's what cops are for.

Photography isn't allowed in museums because the flash degrades paintings / painted surfaces over time.

Because nobody would have given a shit if he had some robotic leg or something. They also would have gotten pissed off and attacked him if he had been holding a video camera up in their faces, which he literally was. 99% of people would be totally fine with augmentations as long as they aren't making shit that is developed for the express purpose of bypassing societal rules and norms. Like how when it was revealed that the NSA was monitoring phone calls, people got mad at the government and didn't start a "no cell phone" revolution

>>

>>
>>337527318
Because that happening is a totally reasonable reason why people would be upset about augmentation. There's an actual nuanced discussion to be had here about people being mad about augmentation and neither people in this thread nor Deus Ex are making it.

Imagine if suddenly, we come out with augmented limbs tomorrow. At first, it's used for limb replacement for like wounded veterans and shit. Literally nobody would care. Then, some company decided to make them publicly available. Some guy at work gets one when he doesn't need one. Weird, but whatever. Still, no one cares. Then some high school kid's parents get all his limbs replaced and suddenly he's an unstoppable sports monster. Well shit, now we have to decide if we ban limb augmentations. Except wait, we already ban steroids so yes obviously we ban them, but it's still annoying that people with money are trying to act like they have some sort of god-given skill we're denying them. Then, some company starts advertising a new feature of their augmented limbs - a special electromagnetic frequency that disables car alarms, unlocks any car on the planet, and is able to start any car. What the fuck would the average person even need that for? Why would you even make that if not JUST to cause problems?

THATS how you develop a society where people are pissed off about augmentation. It's not about "MUH PROGRESS" or "JEALOUS"

There is no 'anti-aug' movements in the original Deus Ex since it has been decades since the technology was introduced and people have become acclimatized and tolerant of it. Yes and no. A lot of the game's design documents show that mechs are second-class citizens. They have their own bathrooms, they're banned from certain establishments, etc. It isn't as apparent in the game itself, but it's implied through conversations with augmented NPCs.

Not really a reference to anti-aug movements, but I remember the bar keeper gets defensive when you mention her heavy augmentations.

There's also a conversation between two NSF guys at Liberty Island talking about Gunther's augs, and one guy is criticizing the way in which a man is judged purely on performance.

Other than that, it seems JC and Jaime were all for the advances in augmentation technology. Bob Page was of course hugely influential in those advances, and eventually would exploit those technologies to try build himself into a god

My bf has a working Google Glass.

It's a piece of shit that barely gets through half of a day on battery life, gets quite warm on your ear, and occasionally the foil on the projector prism delaminates every now and then when exposed to minor moisture so it has to be sent back to Google for semi-annual repairs.

Needless to say, it was kind of a half-baked idea.

The key difference is that JC and Bob Page are nano-augmented, not mechs. They're technologically superior to mechs and their augs are discrete enough to blend in with "pure" humans. That's why so many characters with the older, obsolete augmentations are envious of JC throughout the game.

Playing somewhat more methodically or at least pretending you're playing an RPG is more rewarding, but then again he's playing for an audience and to get views. On a first playthrough playing it like it's a straight FPS isn't that fun though, even if the game completely allows for it you'll miss out on a lot.

You've explained nothing that's necessary for google glass other than you think it's cool and you hope some day it catches it and is popular enough so you don't look like a fucking tool when you wear it even though the convenience it grants is so minimal that it's dead on arrival.
>>
>>337524227
Yes, actually. Mechaugs were eventually subjected to fairly heavy discrimination and it's ultimately why you see so few of them. They're little more than outdated military hardware by the time JC's on the scene. It's part of what makes Gunther's backstory ultimately tragic.

He's playing for the sake of completion, not any specific gameplay goals. I'm sure there's a bunch of people who do speedruns or nonlethal-only runs that you can watch for skill enthusiasm. In Deus Ex 1 mechaugs were never adopted at anywhere near the scale of the prequel games universe. it was a much more singularity-aware setting wherein mechanical augmentation was too quickly outmoded by nanotech solutions (of which the Dentons were a late prototype). it's implied that Gunther and Anna were among a very small group of people in the whole world with extensive mechaug.

HR/MD universe seems to assume commercial mechaug to have started in earnest some time in the early 00s or even earlier.

Reasonably sure it's intentional though, even if MJ12 troops do it throughout the game. Just the way her apartment is designed with all the little clues thrown around. Though maybe not the subtitles part with "MJ12 Troop" visible. If I'd designed that I'd be subtle but not so subtle that most players would completely miss it until after having gone back to the HK police station.

It's a very hard to reach plateau.
HR tried hard and was good though in a lot of ways.
Better than IW. Which ironically I liked, just...not that much. Mostly because when I first played IW that was many years ago and I won't lie, there's some nostalgia influencing that.

not to mention the plot made so little sense.

Technically this is the case in America too. If someone goes to a hospital they won't just be turned away.

It's the medical bills afterward that make them wish they had just died.
>>
>>337534245
I'm Canadian, actually, and I had to actually pay for crutches when I broke my leg. I doubt freaking prosthetics wouldn't cost money, given all the surgery and maintenance needed for them when it's cheaper just to leave the missing limb a stump.

Bloodborne was not that good. Undertale was an indie, not really a major release. There were no real expectations.

There are always good indies to be found.
>>
>>337533335
>HR tried hard and was good though in a lot of ways.
They did a terrific job, considering they had to appeal to the modern audience. Let's be honest, Deus Ex has some outdated mechanics and stuff that wouldn't fly with the casuals and console players. That wouldn't sell well, and SE are very demanding when it comes to sales figures. A few issues aside (boss fights and XP system), it is the best we could have gotten without throwing the franchise into the depths of limbo again.
>>
>>337537595
>Bloodborne was not that good.
What qualifies as "not that good" for Dark Souls, anyway? I mean, it had to at least be decent, given that it's an original story and not fucking Dark Souls 2-type fanfiction.
>>
>>337537558
Because we're talking about quality here. Tastes are another matter.
"mediocre" means it's something ordinary, or below average.
The Witcher 3 just isn't. No matter how good "your good" is compared to "your bad".
>>
>>337537795

>>
>>337537667
>some outdated mechanics and stuff that wouldn't fly with the casuals and console players
I'm pretty skeptical. RPG mechanics are so ubiquitous and Skinner Boxy that almost every shitty multiplayer game has unlock systems to pad out playtime.

Also, explain.

Like, in Deus Ex it was a massive pain in the ass to shoot weapons with low level training. How do you make this work coupled with console aim assist with compromising the system? And casuals would go in thinking it's a shooter, but there is so much RPG in shooting mechanics, that it would probably anger them.
Also, 80% of augs are active, you can't map that to the dpad, and there is no F1-F12 on controllers.
There is probably more that I can think of on short notice.
