Why does everyone have to pretend to have really balanced and varied taste in video games in these threads? In real life people tend to massively prefer one or two genres, not equally like loads of different genres. These threads always stink of dishonesty in an attempt to have 'the best' taste.

I'm not really seeing what you mean here.
In this thread, nearly every 3x3 is clearly reflective of someone playing heavily on certain systems and in only a handful of genres.
Furthermore, some people simply approach 3x3s as "What are my favorite games from nine different genres" because that's often more representative of the overall tastes of the player anyway.
