I was never that invested in the series so ME3 didn't hurt that much.
It was still annoying how bad it was. It's a bit like with Fallout 4. These devs know they're sitting on a goldmine, they fucking know the game will sell like hotcakes, and so they can't be bothered to put any effort into it. They became lazy.
>>
>>337448592

I remember someone pointing out a while after the game came out that people are mad not because of how it ended, but because it ended. I had to kind of reflect on that but I'm way less mad now because of it, but I still think that they got fucking lazy with the ending.
>>
>>337452150
It's not just the ending. The side plots were handled well, but the entire reaper invasion and cerberus stuff was just bullshit from the word go.

Also that fucking kid. Never have I felt so much hatred for a fictional character. Or a real person for that matter.

Question: how many people in this thread actually let someone die in ME2
>>
>>337452278
I liked him at first, because I saw him as the Illusive Man's shitty replacement Shepard who was a total disappointment compared to the original. I mean, he completely fucks up the entire Citadel operation, can't even assassinate a priority target during the middle of a total coup!

Then I realized the game actually thought he was a super badass.

It's not really about letting. You can go into the final mission with perfect conditions and still lose people to random chance. I think in the end I just edited the save.
>>
>>337452590
Since they went out of their way to include a "fuck you" ending with the Extended Cut, I'm guessing it's the latter.
>>
>>337453027
Random chance has nothing to do with it. If you make all the right preparations and choices, you won't lose anyone.

No you don't, if you are best friends with everyone and you pick people right for the job no one will die. On my "cannon" playthrough I set it up so Jakob, Miranda and Jack would all die, and I was left alive with my cool alien friends.

ME2 made it clear the story would be a mess so I never got my hopes up. I'm just glad I was smart enough to wait and was able to enjoy the Citadel/Leviathan DLCs + updated ending on my first playthrough, and that Liara and Garrus were still well written squaddies.

The multiplayer was pretty fun, too.

You also have to make the right choices during the mission itself, like who goes in to hack the terminals in the vents and who creates the biotic shield.

All of the picks are rather obvious. I have no idea what went wrong. And seriously after all these years I don't know and don't care.

>>
>>337454054
Apparently, a surprising number of people picked Thane to hack the terminals at the start of the mission. They must have missed the game telling you it's a job for a tech expert, not a stealth expert.
>>
>>337454108
>Oh, and you also have to get all the upgrades for the Normandy
Oh that was probably it. I saw no point in getting stuff like "10% faster toilet flushing speed".
>>
>>337451991
Shepard is such a cunt
>>
>>337453645
Some parts can still have a random chance of some people dieting. Mordin comes to mind. If you don't send him back to the Normandy with Kelly, he can randomly die holding the line with squad later.
>>
>>337454215
It's not entirely random. There's some kind of calculation that happens for the "Hold the Line" segment. If your score comes up short, you lose someone. I think it starts with the people considered the weakest in direct combat, and Mordin is one of them.
>>
>>337454361
Depends on who pick as your final squadmates. I don't have the chart anymore but leaving the tank teammates behind increases the chances of everybody making it out alive.
>>
>>337454302
Anon, if your crewmembers cannot efficiently use the shitter then they'll be stuck away from their stations, leaving your ship vulnerable. You have to plan ahead for this sort of thing.
>>
>>337454259
Thane is useless for the suicide mission. There is no job you can send him on that doesn't make him die.
>>
>>337454361
You could also prevent that by taking him with you to the final boss fight, assuming he's loyal.

This is called 'lampshading' when characters address something in-universe that doesn't make sense from their perspective because the values on which the decision was made are different than the ones in-universe that would justify such a decision

The problem is that a good lampshade is actually clever or makes some kind of actual observation that isn't several years and an entire game after the fact

REMINDER: The Seven (7) Dot Hack games for the PS2 successfully implemented a system where progress and events were maintained through each series.
Not only that, but you can upload your Quarantine file to GU Rebirth and have the events of your Infection-Rebirth playthrough mentioned throughout your Rebirth-Redemption playthrough.

BioWare had no excuse for failing to maintain a cohesive player driven chain of events through a mere three games in a single series.

>>337457591
They marketed the game heavily on the premise that your decisions would radically alter how the story turns out.

I understand that you have to railroad the player, but there's a difference between TRYING to create the illusion of choice, and having morally grey decisions boil down to whether or not you want to increase a number.

If they marketed it as a really good shooter, or a good rpg, then no one would really care, but Bioware REALLY pushed the aspect of 'EVERY LITTLE THING YOU DID PREVIOUSLY WILL CHANGE THE FATE OF THE GALAXY'

As consumers, we were advertised a false product. We have every right to be enraged by their slimy business decisions.
>>
>>337454259
The problem is that you have to MATCH them.
So you can pick a tech expert and a commando, but if the game looks it up in the table and says "Whoops. Kasumi and Garrus don't go together" then they both die.

Which is pretty retarded.

You just can't make this shit up.

Casey Hudson wrote the ending himself (he isn't a writer) and he didn't let the other writers peer review his ending to try and avoid leaks.

That only happens if you killed her in 1.
If you spared her in me1 then she is loyal in me3.
Your import must have bugged.
>>
>>337459525
Before. You have time for 1-2 missions between the reaper IFF and the crew abduction.
Best way to do it is to complete all missions except for arrival, lair of the shadowbroker, tali and legions loyalty mission before the IFF. Then go get it, recruit Legion, bring him to Tali's loyalty for extra hilarity, then do his loyalty mission.
Then do Shadowbroker and Arrival post-collector base.

can someone explain to me why the ME3 ending is considered bad and the deus ex HR ending is ok.

I don't get it, they pulled the same shit
>>
>>337460384
The way EA marketing handled it before and after release just added various levels of insult.

Also, the ending(s) had more problems than choices not mattering. They also broke existing lore and made no fucking sense.

Furthermore ME3 had way more problems. The ending is just the culmination of all these.
>>
>>337460339
Right, the 2 mission mercy was for the abduction mission. I think I only did Arrival post-game, kinda want to replay the first two games.

>>337460384
HR was a prequel to a world state that was already established and MK isn't out yet to determine if any of that means shit.
ME3 was supposed to be a grand climax of a trilogy that ended in a photoshop filter slider.
>>
>>337460384
Less people gave a shit, for one. Also, in DX's case it was just one game. ME had a series of three games with the promise of choices mattering.

throwing your toys out of the pram there, kid?

i bought mass effect 1 after doing research on it beforehand, i enjoyed that game

i bought mass effect 2, years after its release, on a sale, because i wanted to continue the series, but i disliked the direction the game was going

i didnt buy mass effect 3, because i did research on it and learned that it is total garbage

you dont have to play a game to know whether its going to be shit or not, we have video reviews nowadays

please, stop buying video games, idiots like you are destroying the industry
>>
>>337460384
The HR devs didn't say your choices would matter.

I'm still mad about fucking Mass Effect 2. It boggles my mind how people can make such a fuss over ME3's ending when the entire game was irredeemable shit.

I used to play ME1/2 every year or so because I love the concept of a space opera RPG. Since ME3 released I have yet to replay them again. It retroactively killed my interest in the first two games. I'll watch reviews of ME:A and consider buying if people who's opinions I generally agree with review it positively. DA:I was certainly a step back into the right direction, but they've got a long way to go to get me trusting them again.

Kid, you have no idea. I have a backlog that will last me years, maybe decades. Do whatever you want with your mothers money. But if you're spending it just to spite people over the internet you need to seriously rethink your life.

Fucking retard is neo/v/ anyway and is a cuckold newfag anyway, too fucking stupid to spot a troll
>>
>>337460384
Big part of Mass Effect was the choices you could make and how they'd affect later stuff.

Giant climax turns out to not involve any of it. You could've been the best Shepard or the worst and it wouldn't have mattered, you could still get the "good" or "bad" or "whatever" ending.
>>
Initially, I didn't mind the ending. I enjoyed it in the same way I enjoyed the Human Revolution ending; you take an action, the game doesn't tell you much about what happens next, instead it comes down to what you've seen of the world and what you think will happen.

...then I discovered there was a 'green' ending that required extra work and was obviously superior to the other two options.
