Had I been able to pirate and try the game out, there was a small chance I might have liked the game enough to buy it full price. Instead, they except me to make a blind purchase based on the carefully crafted image that they wish to represent their product, and image that rarely, if ever, accurately portrays and advertise the product as sold. Now that a short demo is not possible, there is no chance of me finding out if I like it, and thus no sale will ever have a chance of occurring.
And the sales numbers for games saddled with Denuvo prove this beyond a doubt.

It's because the devs know they are making a terrible game and they want to make sure nobody can day one pirate in a gamble for just a few more sales.
