OP, it's kind of a game you have to be young to appreciate.
I played it when it first came out and I was 13 years old. It was also my first final fantasy ever. Literally no other game I'd played in my life kept me on the edge of my seat like it. I know if I played it now I would start nit picking it and get annoyed but when I was a kid, this was like Jesus himself had made a video game just for me. It was an incredible adventure.
It's like the same way we were all Linkin Park fans and Dragon Ball Z. As you grow older, the magic wears off but when you were experiencing it for the first time, it was like god himself was speaking to you. When you're an adult and you don't have hours to devote to a game, it can become annoying so games like this lose their magic.

Not really, if you consider powerlevels (if possible) to other Ff protags, she's far weaker. She doesn't even have magic. Cloud as a ShinRA grunt impaled and threw Sephiroth into the lifestream, Terra with her esper powers killed a shotton of soldiers during her time under Kefka. Lightning actually needs Hope's help to beat Odin and was an elite soldier to explain her combat abilities.
