The whole "Tips fedora" thing in relation to my post seems a little weird. It's supposed to be an insult towards mid-twenties redditers who fully enforce athiesm at every chance they get, and yet Dostoyevsky is probably one of the most religious and spiritual writers, who deeply advocates the acceptance of God and virtue in many of his works.

It's hard to give suggestions when one does not know about your taste.
If you look for an intellectual challenge in literature, I recommend Borges (ficciones) and Eco (Name of the Rose and Foucault's pendulum).
If you look for imagination and fascinating imagery, Italo Calvino, Bruno Schultz, shorter works by Kafka, Bulgakov, short stories by Cortazar, maybe Milorad Pavić and his Chazarian Dictionary.
If you look for honesty of expression, then Russian and Japanese literature are a good bet: Chekhov, Dostoyevski, Gorky, Ibuse, Shiga, Kawabata, Abe.
Those are the books that excited me even when I thought literature does not have anything more to offer. But I do have my own specific biases (towards russian literature, magical realism and japan specifically), so it's hardly a safe bet.

Yes food analogies are bad because /v/ told you they are. Keep up the good work.
Food analogies are so common because it's pretty much the one thing everyone can relate to.
I'll humor you though.
>high quality harmonies and melodies
I'll never understand why that is important. It is pretty much listening to a song for the notes. What's important is what is being sung, not how it sounds.
The point being, you get more from a book than just information, more from a meal than just nutrition, more from a song than just the meaning of the lyrics. You get enjoyment from it, and the better the prose, cooking, or songwriting, the more enjoyment you'll get.
Beyond that though, low-quality prose can impede your ability to understand the book's message, while high-quality prose will enhance your understanding.

Food analogies are some of the least subjective analogies you can make. Everybody eats, pretty much everyone would prefer tasty food to tasteless food. If my analogy "didn't work" you really didn't get it, you might actually, literally, I don't mean this in a meme-y 4chan way, be on the spectrum

It really isn't. Rapping, especially good rap, is all about rhythm and flow.
>Weren't you the one saying shit about
>>reading literature with enjoyment as the primary focus
>?
No. That was another anon, I just saw your comment dismissing the fact that it's better for something you read to be well written, and jumped in there.
>Following that logic if the content is good/important/worthwhile but the prose is shit, it's still better to read that then reading something with good prose that isn't telling you anything new, which is exactly my point, prose is not important.
Following your logic, it would be best to do away with prose all together. It's best, and most efficient, to just read summaries of books on wikipedia or sparknotes. That way you get all the information and ideas without all that bothersome aesthetic experience, and you'll even get some interpretation and explanation without the need to think.
Bad content + poor prose = worst option
Bad content + good prose or good content + bad prose = second best option, depending on perspective and preference
Good content + good prose = best option, hands down.

>These are all good suggestions but Foucault can suck my dullard dick. He's extremely thorough and certainly intelligent but by god does he fail at writing anything in a manner that possesses flavour. He's like some sort of fucking nutrient paste.
Fair enough. Honestly, I'm not the world's biggest fan of it, but I thought my dislike for it is rooted in purely personal bias, and still thought others might find it well worth reading.

You know... FROM might be able to do a pretty cool walking simulator based on this, the protagonist lives in his own world, and never really connects with other people. Their distance, emotionless, vague method of storytelling could work wonders.

I miss being able to enjoy the most churned out sci-fi and fantasy without a care because my imagination still functioned. I just want to read Flinx in Flux again.

Other anons used comics, you're fine. And quite easily, actually. You're a part of the remaining world powers desperately trying to retain order or gain control of the world by using the virus and the infected as propaganda and weaponry, constantly using what imports and exports remain to rule the last of humanity with an iron fist as you infect foreign water supplies while offering military aid to their leaders.
