If you're in a team chances are you get paired with other teams. I was in a team with just 1 friend and we got paired with another team of 2 people and continually fought a team of 4. The extra 2 slots on each team were lone players because they were shuffled around each game.
Same with level, if you have a high level you'll be paired with a team of similar level to your own most of the time.
Problem is though when playing in a team is half the time we raped the other team because we out-coordinated them or we got paired with an infinitely more coordinated team and got our asses handed to us. This was only a problem when playing in teams larger than 3 people though.

Quality of OW maps leaves much to be desired too. Especially the old ones like Gibraltar or Hanamura. They're full of chokepoints with no alternative routes. There also virtually useless areas like the one between the first and second capture points on Volskaya. No one ever organizes a defense there, there's never action going on in there. It exists just to make the defenders waste time getting to the first point.
Although the new maps improved a little in that regard.
I quite like Nepal (except the Sanctum) and Ilios.

I bought Evolve and Overwatch. There's some huge differences:
>Match time
Overwatch matches are between 7-12 minutes long. Easy to pickup and if your team sucks it's not a huge time waste. Evolve was 20-40 minute long matches
>change heroes on fly.
You can change your hero on the fly in overwatch, so if you're frustrated you can easily switch
>constant action
Evolve was mostly a boring hunt and it was really annoying constantly chasing the monster. Overwatch has plenty of action.

Sometimes you had to play the monster, sometimes you had to play the hunter. Not fun if you don't like one of them

The game was fine at the start albeit some balancing issues but they worked and tweaked on it. Then suddenly 2k games started launching massive amounts of DLC everywhere out the wazoo and the pricing was stupidly high that people just got turned off by having to pay an overpriced season pass(every season pass is overpriced anyway because they're basically interest free loans to the company) and $5 USD for each new character not to mention all the skins so that's like over $200 worth of shit right there.
The problem also is that some players just couldn't git gud as well and demanding incessant nerfs for things that weren't broken while the things that were broken got fixed but too ages to do so. So as a result player retention dwindled because casuals weren't getting catered too.

Well overwatch is 33% less than Evolve. But these differences I mentioned are huge. Evolve's cash shop was not an issue, the game play itself was. I spent dozens of hours in Evolve, and I spent many hours during the free Overwatch beta. I can guarantee you that Overwatch will have much more lasting power than Evolve.
Everyone I joined a game in Evolve, it felt like a major investment in time and energy. And a lot can go wrong which will cause a snowball effect in the game that can't be recovered from, leading to early quits.
Overwatch is so carefree and fun, matches are short, you can completely change your team composition on the fly, and the action and levels are tight. It's going to be a huge success.

Comp play have consistent soley on 1 gimmick team comp that stays super strong with no counters until blizzard nerfs a part of what games the comp broken.
Examples: double winston was super broken. Blizzard nerfs winstons shield so its super mediocre with two winstons and even more shit with 1.
Than there comes a comp with 4 supports and genji+tracer that gets run on all the maps until blizzard nerfed the fuck out of zenyatta and symmetra.
Overwatch will never be balanced enough that varier team comps will work. It will just be a mirror match of the best comps until it dies out. The game being about counter picking just doesnt work with how inherently broken the heroes are to each other.

OW takes some of the features of already popular games (Tf2, mobas, arena shooters...) and mix them in a user friendly and catchy way. the game doens't bring anything new to the table in terms of mechanics, gameplay, tacticts, etc., but still it's a shift in the paradigm, and it's fresh enough for people to give it a try.
that's why I see this game becoming extremely popular in the next year. after 5/6 years playing LoL/dota people want something new, while keeping the same base mechanics at the same time.

The gameplay is just so extremely tight and well done. I get the same feeling playing it as I did playing Tf2 back in 2007. The fact that it heavily rewards playing with friends, such as custom skins and emotes, extra xp, synergy between many classes, means word of mouth is going to cause people to convince their friends to buy it. This game is going to shake the FPS market, and I'm interested to see which valve FPS games suffer a player migration.
