They're all part of Boletaria so they're relatively close to each other.
I think you can even see parts of the castle from the mine area.

One nice part of Demon's Souls overall was its sheer verticality. Boletaria Palace was more horizontal in that you could see parts of one or more levels from another level.
Didn't work so well in Stonefang Tunnel but you still know you're descending far underground.
You're scaling Tower of Latria and going through Shrine of Storms so you can see above/below to other levels.
This was kept to an extend in Dark Souls and disappeared completely in Dark Souls II.

Yes, DeS' soundtrack is definitely the best in the series. No dumb layers of choir singing in every single theme, instead it's more conventional with nice melodies and distinguishable motifs.
