The 1080 is going to be a complete waste of money like the 980 was. Shit's pointless anyway, The 1070 will be able to handle everything at 1440p at over 60 FPS maxxed if it's as good as the Titan X like Nvidia claims. If the 1080 is 25% better than the Titan X like Nvidia claims it still won't be good enough to max demanding games at 4K and get 60 FPS or better. It's overkill for 1440p and not enough for 4K.
>>
>>337315598
Thank you for the advice, unlike the other cuck faggots who aren't of any help(to those who are sry ur kewl 2).

Truthfully all I want is to be able to game on some high ass settings. I don't need 4K, I'm content with 1080p & 60+ FPS. I want dual monitors, one for the game and other for browsing internet/netflix/porn etc.
>>
>>337315704
>(to those who are sry ur kewl 2).
whats wrong with you
>>
>>337315598
I still have no idea why everyone is comparing it to the titan x. everything i see is "faster than the titan x and nearly half the price" but so was the 980ti.
Is it just for a more favorable comparison?
I guess "faster than the 980ti and slightly more expensive" doesn't scream progress.
>>
>>337315598
The 1080 is 38% faster than the 1070

>>
>>337316030
Well to be fair, if you got a 980 or 960 in the last few months you're going to be pretty butt mad.
The 970 and 980ti are still pretty good value though
>>
>>337315704
If you are heading for 1080p a 970 or 980 would take care of just about anything.

Having more overkill cards lets you use higher hz and resolution monitors. But the technology is pretty damn advanced enough to handle 1920 pretty well.

Look up benchmarks on the gpu you want. And stick to nvidia never ever had a problem with their drivers or cards
>>
>nvidia

Have fun with that zero support when the next series of cards come out.
>>
>>337315334
you'll be blowing over half your budget on your GPU and it will be bottlenecked by your other shitty parts you will be forced to buy due to your budget constraints.
if you don't have the money, buy mid-high range, save up for 5-7 years and then upgrade to a higher tier of overall parts.
if you end up having one amazing part and 3-4 low performance ones, you'll just be dragging whatever part was your moneysink down to a much lower level of performance.
>>
>>337316151
The next ones are going to be a refresh like the 500 and 700 series.

They're really not.
If you have 980 money just save up a little extra for a ti or get a 970 and save the difference.
Or at the very least get an r9 nano or something.
The only way a 980 is good value is if a sale knocked $100+ off it's regular price.

I bought a prebuilt a few years ago and I'd like to build one from scratch because of the few problems this one has (half the fucking USB ports are shot for no reason and I'd like one with a normal HDMI port and built-in bluetooth)
>>
>>337317585
The 980 is actually only around 10-15% faster than a 970.
And to drive it in even harder stock 980ti's are around 40% faster than a 980 and samples like gigabyte's g1 gaming card can be around 60% faster and hover around $650
The 980 is just awful, the only reaosn anyone got one was >3.5GB speculation

the 1080 is like $700 alone so I doubt it

you still need a CPU, mobo, RAM, PSU, case, possibly an after market cooler, there's no way you can cut corners there
either save more money or forget the 1080

Should I really go for the 1080 when the 1070 is so much cheaper and still substantial? Will I really notice the $220 difference?
>>
>>337314870
Just pirate the OS, anon. Are you stupid or something?

The 1080 is probably gonna release around the $600 mark, which means getting it would force you to skimp on some of the other components if that's your budget. I'd definitely go with a 1070 for a budget build, which will leave you more cash for other stuff.

Go with an ASrock mobo, their cheap as fuck and not all that bad, you can go poorfag for RAM and HDD too. If you're on a tight budget, you can skip SDD despite the fact that everyone's crazy about them and you should get one if you got the money. Be sure not to fall for the "gaming rig PC case", buy the cheapest shit that can fit your components and has enough fan slots to provide good airflow.

Building a gaming rig, THE MOST important shit is your GPU, so your choices should be based on something like this (expensive to cheap):

GPU>CPU>mobo>PSU/SSD/HDD>everything else

Mind you, if you like to OC your CPU, you'll need to dump more cash into a mobo with decent VRM and an aftermarket cooler.
>>

Not unless all your other parts are mediocre.

The 1080 alone will be half the fucking budget and it won't even be a superior third party versions. Save up more money while waiting for the third party GTX 1080 to come out.
>>
>>337323119
Yeh, last year on black friday I bought a 4790k at Micro Center for $250, total was around $400 bundled with a fancy mobo.

I'd have fallen for the Skylake meme if MC didn't make the "sale" price on the 6700k like $330 when they were selling them for $300 when they first came out.
>>
>>337323398
oh, I've heard about that but I haven't seen strong enough evidence to suggest that nvidia is deliberately crippling older cards, I imagine the backlash would be pretty brutal for nvidia
>>
>buying 1080/1070

So many flags raised, and yet people still fell for it.
Why not just wait till the competition unveil what they have to offer and then make your decision then.

Just how huge a difference do third party versions make?

Mulling over whether to go 1440p with a 1080. Figure I'll be fine for now but wonder how it will hold up in the next couple years than if I had laid low at a less demanding 1080p.
>>
>>337320316

For starters why the fuck are you buying an OS, secondly why the fuck do you want to buy a card that's like 800 fucking dollars when your budget is only 1k? No matter how beefy a graphics card is it's not going to cover up the failings of a shitty processor or shitty everything else.
>>
>>337323656
I'm going to wait, my card still works fine so I'm not in a rush to upgrade

Are there any new CPUs coming out this year that might be significantly better than what's available now?

>>337323853

Hell a 970 is fine for 1080p. The whole point of getting a 1080 is for 1440p/4k and VR.

I'm waiting to see how the 1080 benchmarks at 4k before I consider upgrading from 1080p, otherwise I may just wait for the inevitable 1080Ti next year.
>>
>>337324218
>Are there any new CPUs coming out this year that might be significantly better than what's available now?
absolutely not

also I'm getting a 1080 for Fallout 4 mods since it might be the worst optimized game ever made
>>
>>337324054
The thing is, everybody expect Nvidia to do a paper launch it in last weekend presentation (Since they failed to show it off in GPU conference, people assume that the card is just not ready), and have a physical unveiling and launch in Computex alongside with other third party with a shipping date somewhere in June or early July.

The fact that this gpu will start shipping as early as 27th May (3 days before Computex) really, really bother me.
>>
>>337315704
>1080p/60
wait and see what the R9 480X is like. Definitely don't get a 1080, it's for 1440p and up. Put the money you save towards an X99 mobo and Broadwell-E.

>>337316472
You'll start feeling regret when Nvidia neglects your drivers, introduces new features you can't run, and 1060s start beating 980 Tis in new games.
>>
>>337322480
No reason.

>>337324101

>>
>>337324218
>Are there any new CPUs coming out this year that might be significantly better than what's available now?
CPUs will not improve this year, next year AMD will become competitive again, but not significantly better.
The fact that datacenters are picking them up again indicates they may be better or at least cheaper than intel's
>>
If you're going to get a motherboard,b e sure to look on ebay for the same one as well. I got my Asrock z77 extreme4 for like 150 bucks on ebay from a bid. It was used but still in great condition and I'll be able to SLI if I ever look into it for the future.

Generally something like 10-20C cooler, though open designs (non reference/blower designs) make everything else in your case a couple degrees warmer, it's never an issue unless you have zero case airflow.
>>
>>337325181
Yeah, but it'll sure be higher than the price Nvidia gloat in the conference.
This isn't new, but for a third party to use a shitty cooler and barebone box just to meet the stated priced show how little wiggle room they have for this gpu.
>>
>>337314870
I'm thinking about getting a 1070, but it might be a little overkill right now. My 970 can run almost anything maxed out at 1080/60fps, and I play on my TV anyway. Maybe once I get a 4K tv.
