I think we can all agree that Terranigma is the best SNES RPG, right?
Up there for sure, with Earthbound, Crono Trigger, FFVI.
It just had so many good JRPGs.
>>337311961
Oh shit I forgot about Lufia 2, which I feel is on the same level.
A step down is Illusion of Gaia, Soul Blazer, FFV, Super Mario RPG.
>>337311867
the best b-tier RPG along with stuff like spike mcfang and illusion of gaia, sure
it couldn't even touch the bottom of the A tier stuff like secret of evermore though
>>337311867
Dont forget Secret of Evermore
Seiken Densetsu 3
Tales of Phantasia
The way you have to rebuild the world and it's the REAL world is amazing, but the actual story about zombies wasn't.
>>337311867
No, that's FFV.
>>337311867
Not even close. The combat is samey and repetitive, and the level/dungeon design is atrocious and boring as fuck.
Terranigma sucks, friend.
>>337312031
>Illusion of Gaia
>b-tier
Have you no feels, anon?
>>337314940
Is for >>337312067
>>337314940
>>337315015
it's good but it's not top 10 SNES RPGs good
Chrono Trigger is top dog.
Illusion of Gaia and Terranigma are depressing as fuck.
>>337314612
Are there any ARPGs with good level design?
Dragon Quest V is the best
It's pretty damn swood.
>>337315513
No they aren't. And you forgot Soul Blazer.
You want a depressing game, play Lufia 2 Sinistrals.
>>337315284
Curious what you'd list as your top 10?
>>337311867
CT
Seiken Densetsu 3
To me tales of phantasia takes the cake. It's just amazing in all areas. PSX version improved everything though.
>>337312031
My nigga, lufia 2 and its ancient cave are the shit.
>>337319097
earthbound
chrono trigger
FF 6
FF 5
FF 4
Secret of Mana
Secret of Evermore
Mario RPG
Breath of Fire
Lufia
not in that exact order
though i never really played lagoon, lufia 2, ogre battle, Ys, and a bunch of other stuff that might deserve to be in there
I'm partial to Live-a-Live but i can appreciate a good tweest anywhere.
>All this shit taste in the thread
I knew /v/ was filled with casuals
Are there any good SNES JRPG's that never left Japan that have a fan english translation?
>>337322365
>Der version
II on Mega Drive is better in every single aspect
>>337311867
Is this that game that had some weird creepy pasta about it? I don't remember much, just that it had something to do with a character jumping off a building.
>>337322365
Looks like Satoshi Urushihara artwork
>>337322506
Live A Live i think
and a fucking incredible looking Tales Of game i saw in a GamePro Magazine that i don't think came over
>>337322365
Satoshi Urushihara is a god
>>337323457
It is. He did the character designs for all of the Langrisser games except for the Dreamcast one, I think.
>Best Tier
Secret Of Mana
Seiken Densetsu 3
Chrono Trigger
Final Fantasy VI
>Still Great Tier
Super Mario RPG: LOTSS
Earthbound
Final Fantasy IV
Dragon Ball Z: LOTSS

>>337311867
No. Breath of Fire 2 is the best.
>>337323908
get FF5 on that backlog.
That reminds me that the fiesta is coming up in 20 days.
>>337311867
The whole story of Terranigma is quite disturbing.
SUPER MARIO RPG
SUPER MARIO RPG

Terranigma is the better Chrono Trigger. And if the USA would've got the game, this wouldn't even be disputed.
It's just nostalgiafags and Ameriturds trying to say otherwise. Sure, CT is a top snes-rpg, probably even the second best after Terranigma, but its still a regular snes-rpg, with the same elements. Both, Terranigma's design and story however were pushing further and cemented its status as greatest snes-rpg of all time.
>>337324164
The "never ending cycle" trope done right. The only time it was done right actually imo
Why is everyone suddenly talking about this game? Did some let'splayer faggot do a video it or something?
>>337324421
I played both of these games at the exact same time with no prior knowledge of either and Chrono Trigger is so much better
Terranigma's story doesn't even make sense if you aren't Japanese
>>337324689
>Terranigma's story doesn't even make sense if you aren't Japanese
Care to explain?
>>337323808
I like the way he drawspubes
>>337315681
A LOT
Ultima underworld, system shock 1 and 2, deus ex, arx fatalis, king's field saga, souls saga, and those are from the top of my head.
It's ending was fucking depressing.
>>337311867
Man Bed of Chaos had such terrible graphics
>>337315681
>>337325121
Oh, and pretty much every 2D metroidvania ever, of course.
>>337324792
It's been 15 years since I played it so I barely remember anything about it but the story seems very eastern/buddhist and to a western kid like I was, completely non-sensical
>>337311867
Definitely. No game has such an inspiring and mystical story as Terranigma. It is absolutely glorious. Damn shame that it didn't get the recognition it deserves because it wasn't released in America.
I've played nearly every SNES RPG, and nothing comes close to Terranigma, except for maybe Chrono Trigger or Seiken Densetsu 3. Love those as well.
I will shamelessly shill this game in every SNES RPG thread because it is criminally underrated. Gorgeous spritework, a stellar ost, a decently interesting setting and story and a super cool magic system where spells are keyed to words. And as long as you're not a fag who looks up all the broken spells before you even start playing, it's respectably difficult in places. Easily in my top 5.
