1-3 were alright because they didn't bog down the experience with mini game after mini game, and most of the mini games were actually good relatively speaking.

I won't argue with that. The orb system in general is just a fat mess that slows down the games, the rewards for catching an opponent on one of your spaces is usually just like -10coins. Its pointless.
I never got why they didn't do shorter runs on multiple boards for each game, would make it more bearable, result in more shows and show off more content instead of a hell slog on one board for 4 hours. They realized they made the wrong board choice early on here but didn't restart and do the right thing for some reason.

Why do people like 4 so much? You want glacial Mario Party, bland as fuck rectangular boards with no aesthetics dotted by shitty "pathways", jarring "realistic" graphics, item system entirely dominated by shitty mega/mini mushrooms, look no further than 4.
6 is easily the best GC party.
