In New Vegas it's impossible to not get filthy rich no matter what you do. Merchants pay you absurd prices for anything in good condition. The DLC episodes give absurd rewards like unlimited weapon repair kits. You don't need to concentrate on a build since by the end of the game you pretty much maxed out all your skills. I beat New Vegas on the highest difficulty without even knowing it was on, it was the default from the beginning. Fallout 4 is easy but New Vegas is utterly broken.
Of course Fallout 4 completely fucked up with the shit tier writing and the shallow quests.

It matters because New Vegas has close to a million more options to do things with money than Fallout 4 has. Money isn't even half as intersting as in 4 as in New Vegas. No surprise there since we are in Vegas. And the items in 4 restocked as slow as the money. Meanwhile everyone restocked supplies in New Vegas after 3 days.
Unmodded, they're about equally enjoyable for their own reasons.

Ranking Fallout 3 & 4 is difficult. Fallout 4 is a better, competent game, but bland and completely devoid of soul. Fallout 3 is absolutely fucking terrible, one of the worst video games of all time, and for that reason I'd rather play it over 4.

It's hard to properly convey visuals with text. That's the thing you forget about all this. The cool thing about books is that even if you get a good description of a character you are still gonna create your own unique visuals of how everything looks. You use you imagination, you can't do that with video games. If a character looks nothing like you would expect a character in the book(As an example in Metro 2033 and 2034, Hunter is described as a giant of a man, he ain't in the game).
