So I just beat "Tricks and Traps" for the first time. When does this game get bad? I'm a huge fan of the first game but have always stayed away from 2 because of how bad I've heard it was. So far it's just as good if not better. The super shotgun is great and I like that there is greater enemy variety.

Doom 2 is a fantastic game at its core - but the level design of the Earth levels is fucking awful, making it a chore to play.
Sometimes there is just a ridiculous, unbearable amount of enemies on the screen
Doom 2 has interesting enemies & the SSG though, which makes it superior for .wads

The MP Beta left a horrible impression on people. Bethesda/id REALLY fucked up demoing that and not a SP level. I haven't seen a lot of negativity towards the SP other than maybe it looks a bit repetitive

Doom 2 not bad at all, on the contrary. It's just that the only ratings /v/ can give to a gameare either the second coming of Christ or Satan's bleeding rectum after a mexican food diarrhea.
I personally prefer Doom 1's level structure for the most part, but Doom 2 has more enemy types, as well as the FUCKING DOUBLE SHOTGUN™. The levels tend to get a bit messy however, with the biggest offender being the city level.
Other than that, it's a fucking stellar game and whoever says otherwise deserves to forget to put sugar in their coffee in the morning.
