So what does /v/ think of this underappreciated MegamanZX looking game?

It also is on Steam

>Anons, please talk. Been trying to start up discussion for ours. This thread is Fallin under the radar like the game did.
>>
Better than the X and Zero series.
>>
>>337193841

I guess there aren't any corporate shills being paid to astroturf the game.
>>
>>337195487
Better than Mighty Gunvolt.

Because it actually came out.

Inafune had a hand in its creation too.
>>
>>337193841
There's a sequel coming for this game, right? I forgot. I'm still playing through the first one.
>>
I had the 3DS version but didn't get to finish it before my 3DS bricked and I lost my license thanks to Nintendo's ass backwards license policy. I heard they added all the cut dialogue back in the Steam version. Worth getting it instead?
>>
>>337195832
There is the sequel, coming out this summer.

Also, steam has good translation and option of Japanese voice overs. It's good.

S+ ranking is goddamn hard.

Copen is basically an enemy Megaman and true final boss is hype
>>
>>337195874
Wait did they really? Cause that was my biggest problem with the game since the story fucking blew and made the barest minimum of sense without all the cut dialogue and scenes.
>>
>>337193841
Sell me on this game anons
>>
>>337195874
It is!

You also get Japanese voice over, translation makes sense, you get additional modes, stuff is hype.

I love boss designs and the Deadly Sin theme. I honestly wish this was advertised more...

There's A sequel coming up with playable Copen though so...
>>
>>337193841
it's ok

level design felt waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too designed around memorizing it for le super perfect speed runs
>>
>>337195965
Yeah, I got the Steam version. Didn't know the 3DS version had stuff cut out.

S+ Ranking is a complete bitch, but I'm still doing it. I didn't realize having certain equips and not touching the checkpoints would increase the score needed for s+.
>>
>>337195995
How bad was it? Did they take out ALL cutscenes?

>>337196039
A Megaman ZX looking game in which Inafune Had a hand in. Made by company who made ZX and Zero collection.

Combat mechanic has unique aspect. You use gun to tag people and use your electric field to zap em, because your shots estsbilish connections. So gameplay is different than Megaman.

Rival character is full human.

Same company as one working on mighty no 9. Different team though.

Has Japanese voice overs.

If you die, there is a chance of being revived with super mode, Japanese soundtrack with vocals and being badass, depending on your social link.

If you do super good in level, you also have a different track playing with vocals. Different song for each stage, although after hearing it for first time you can hear it somewhere else too
>>
>>337195995
What do you mean?

What cut content? I hear this all the time. ON /V/ that is.

I know here was cut dialogue, but where are you getting off about it not making sense without it? Where did you play through the game with it intact?

Are you Japanese? Or are you just parroting what /v/ says?

ARE YOU THE SAME GUY IN EVERY THREAD ABOUT GUNVOLT? If so, how much time do you spend on /v/ a day?
>>
>>337196156

For some levels you can do easy s+ rank trick. Because some are torture without checkpoints.

Though to be fair, S rank exists cuz Japanese people thought "You get an A if you are below 100%, so how do we signify perfection?"

And then these guys went "let's go even further beyond since S rank nowadays allow mistakes."

Trivia. In Japanese azure Striker is called Armed Blue. Lumen is called Morpho ARRIVING SHORTLY AT THE LZ[/Spoiler] and S+ is SS
>>
>>337193841
saw the composers band play some of the songs live at magfest this year

dunno much about the game but the guitarists technique was so clean and the vocalist was pretty cute too
>>
>>337196560
Steam English version and 3DS English version show the difference. You see stuff in steam one that was in Japanese that was absent in 3DS English. Mid level dialogue and all that too
>>
Best thing it did was make me want to play Mega Man X again. Other than that it's a very mediocre platformer with very little content and a lot of stupid grinding.
>>
>>337196039
The backdrop for the game is pretty much, "ideal world-building about psychics and any non-dystopian future regarding psychics," that you can imagine.

Like how Metroid is the only series that revolves around life-siphoning alien organisms and if any game copied that it would be copying Metroid. The game has the best basis of superhumans.

Also, if you like Darker than Black, you're pretty much playing a Hei.

There's a blog for all this btw. http://inticreates.com/azure-striker-gunvolt-fleeting-memories-part-1/
>>
Fun thing.

Each boss might have a weakness to other's power. Utilized by Copen to defeat the Invincible crazy Elise Alter

He literally is a human Megaman.
>>
>>337196824
But the Steam version just came out didn't it?

>>337197062
>Grinding
What, where? I'm playing through the game and I've never had to grind or equip any items so far.
>>
>>337197062
Anon, it was made with low budget.

And first Megaman games of each series always had some issues that were ironed out in first sequel
>>
>>337197198

I beat it, Anon. I beat Steam version and then tried to see some English 3DS lets plays for tips.

Needless to say, I was confused by lack of stuff
>>
>>337197198
Grinding for item materials is only part of it. Needing to replay a stage 3 for all the challenges is retarded.

>>337197230
Budget doesn't matter to me. They tried to make up for the lack of content with a stupid, pointless grind.
>>
>>337197328
... They are challenges. They are optional.

Are you saying that you did not expect to have to replay stuff when you want to 100% it?

You can beat the game without synthesizing anything

>>337197198
Steam version came out in August 2015
>>
>>337197638
>Are you saying that you did not expect to have to replay stuff when you want to 100% it?

The way it's handled is some of the worst I've ever seen. If the 3 mission limit wasn't bad enough, the goals don't stack. The challenges should have been built in so players wouldn't have to needlessly repeat stages several times. If I go through a stage and get an A rank, why the fuck do I have to do it again for a B?
>>
>>337197809
Honestly, that's true. But getting both the lowest time limit and s+ rank is damn impossible.

I guess I can feel the pain about limit, too.

Here's to hopes the sequel fixed it.

Apparently it is out in Japan. If it also has more enemies, amazing.

But anon, did you at least like the bosses

The Steam version came out last August on the first anniversary of Gunvolt. They added an option to add all the dialogue that was taken out of the 3DS release. They also retranslated the script. You can play the 3DS script on the Steam version as well.

What was taken out was all voices for cutscenes, most of the mid-stage dialogue and all of the dialogue during boss fights.
>>
>>337199498
Go ahead.

Gunvolt series needs more love.

AND HONESTLY, they were smart to go the 2D sprites way. They could take it further as long as they avoid 3D models of Mighty no 9

I really love the assets for the game. Glad Inti still can do spritework.

Here's the key visual for Gunvolt 2. Spoilering if you haven't beat the first game.

Details for it so far is a release date of August 28th in Japan. There's going to be a physical release of the game dubbed the Striker Pack that will have both GV1 + GV2 in one package. Limited edition of the Striker Pack comes with a drama CD, materials booklet, and 3DS theme. They're also doing pre-order bonuses for it which includes items like posters, wallscrolls, pins, cell phone stands, and DLC.

The game definitely has some things it can work on but I am excited for the sequel. Did you hear the live concert from MAGfest?

In Gunvolt 2, you can play as Copen. He has the ability to steal boss weapons like your favorite blue robot. He also hovers and just rams himself into everything. You can see some of his gameplay here:

>>
>>337200169
Here's hoping for Azure Striker series to spiral off into a whole new Franchise.

Cuz right now it is more promising than Mighty No 9.

>>337199891

Too bad we never fight Zonda...

Except for Mighty Gunvolt! He can be fought there.

Anons, what was your reaction first time you died but Anthem got activated?
>>
>>337193841
Properly underappriciated. Shit level design, shit bosses, shit gameplay, 30 FPS in an action game. 5/10 at best just because it looks nice.

I had heard somewhere that the series would be a trilogy but it's not really a reliable source. I could see it happening though. Also, Gunvolt is Inti's first self published title. There's a lot of love and thought put into the title that surprisingly enough has been translated into English mostly. There's drama CDs, side stories, character profiles, lots of content outside of the game.
>>
>>337200520
>>337200495

For a first self published title, it did pretty good.

Honestly, considering how many copies it sold I now wonder how much budget it had that they considered it a success.

I adore how they are not even trying to hide the innuendo in both translated text in steam version and the male Sprite.

Also, this gem:

"And I heard you're a little bit of both."
"That's right. A plug for every socket and a socket for every plug"

Aside from being voiced by Kaito Ishikawa, the hero is a supernatural person armed with a gun trying to save a Love Interest from the hands of the bad guys, and the Final Boss also turns from a human to a giant by powering himself with the Love Interest. Now are we talking about Gunvolt or Nero?

I just found out that if you shoot into Merak's portals, the bullets will come out of the one next to him and hit him.

Fuck
>>
Question. When is the 3DS version getting that fucking patch that adds the removed content? I've been playing it on Steam as well but man, I can't play accurately enough on a keyboard and it's getting to the point where the game is getting harder than it should be due to it.

I also don't have a controller I can plug in.

Steam

>>
>>337203905

>>
Cool thing.

Nova was an attempt to clone Azure Striker. This is why he hates Gunvolt. Gunvolt got the powers, while Nova... Got something else
>>
>>337199721

I was going to get it at launch but a ton of people complained about the port so I never did.
>>
>>337205127
>8-4kids

Well the 3DS version talked about how Lumen's voice was like ecstasy for the ears in a pretty descriptive way, while the actual dialogue didn't mention it that way, so it definitely wasn't censored or anything.
>>
>>337204004
Steam, even if it does not look like it at first. The dual screen emulation is a bit botched and could have been better implemented, but it has much more content than the 3DS version.

Did anyone else hoped to take the boss's sword when you defeated them? Such a tease.

It is a really nice touch that they shatter later on though.
>>
>>337206867
I thought that! The moment the first Sword appeared I thought all other bosses had different weapons you would take from them
>>
>>337193841
Rather dull. Thought the level design and gameplay was repetitive with no real challenge to keep me interested.

>>
>>337193841

>>
>>337207467
Agreed. Other than bosses and the Lumen Tracks, it was repetitive
>>
The problems I have with the game are:
- the price (It's pretty old already, I'll buy it for $5)
- 30 fps lock. In 206 this is just unacceptable. And they will probably do the same for gunvolt 2
>>
>>337209896

I don't see the problem here honestly. Is it such a big deal? Is 30 fps lock causing so many control issues or such? What's the issue
>>
>>337210190
I don't mean in animation frames, those can stay at 15 for all I care.
But yes, there is a lot of stuff going on in the screen, at the same time and it would simply look so much better at 60 fps.

>>
I swear this game is so painfully underrated I wish there was more stuff to obsess and fan over... Oh well, ASG2 gonna kick ass.

Also:
>2 Gunvolts before 1 Mighty No.9
>>
>>337210638
If they push back Mighty No 9, The whole trilogy might complete itself before it's release. And aparently development on it begun at same time as on Mighty no 9.

And it had no kickstarter
>>
>>337210638
I know it's fun to shit on MN9. But Gunvolt was way underway when MN9 started.
Not to mention it's a completely different type of game that's releasing on ALL platforms.
>>
It could have done without the gem shit, but otherwise it's a fun little game.

The final boss wasn't even worth it for all the effort spent unlocking him. I expected another phase or something, but he just died and that was it.
>>
>>337210638
>>337210910

>In b4 they manage to release 8 Gunvolts before Mighty no 9 is released. Mighty No 9 is the ninth Gunvolt.
