I mean the premise is fundamentally boring, exploring procedurally-generated planets gets old REALLY fast, and no amount of space dogfighting or whatever gimmicky stuff they put in it will make that worthwhile. If you want to look at nice planets, try Space Engine.
>>
>>337136167
Unlikely, the kids who grew up playing minecraft are getting older now and looking for something with a more mature aesthetic. The fact it isn't going to be multiplayer will kill it's longevity though.
>>
>>337136167

It might justify me picking up a Ps4. Not enough space games on console.

It does have space fighting, and resource collecting, and weapon building, and ship buying, and travelling, and rune discovering

There is an objective to the game, and we already know what it is because Sean Murray has said it about a billion times - to get to the centre of the universe.

So basically you start out with nothing and you have to gather resources, buy ships, upgrade your weapons, etc, to get to the centre of the universe. What happens there is a mystery at the moment. But you will run into other people playing the game when you get there, because that's where everyone is going.

I don't know why the fuck I even respond to these threads though because I'm about to get a reply saying "LOL YOU'RE A COMPLETELY AND UTTER SHILL HAHAHAHAHAH XD XD XD" in about two seconds

>>
>>337140136
>They were very vague about it being multiplayer, but it seems like they are hinting that it is. Would this not be a brilliant idea if it was multiplayer?
They've always been perfectly consistent in everything I've seen / listened to

Basically you all start off in the same galaxy (but there are apparently multiple galaxies - my theory is that when you get to the centre of the universe, basically the main conclusion of the game, you can then visit other galaxies)

And they keep stressing "running into people is rare" because at the beginning of the game, it is. It's astronomically unlikely you will see anyone at the beginning of the game. But as you get further towards the centre you will run into people. Sean Murray has said he expects that main "routes" will form close to the centre, as people converge on each other, because then they will be able to share what planets they're visiting online and others will be drawn to that.

They are trying to moderate hype, I guess mainly because you won't be able to just teleport to where your friends are. You will have to travel to them. At the beginning of the game that will be basically impossible. Even when you finally upgrade all your stuff, they might be on the opposite side of the galaxy to you. But it is possible to find your friends, yes, if you put in the hours to travel to them.
>>
>>337140553
I think the 'job' is more, go wherever and generate as much hype as possible about a variety of products
>>
>>337140553
I dont doubt anything these days. They probably want their game to become a meme and hope it gets spread around the net increasing exposure.
>>
>>337140752

>>
>>337140553

>>
>>337140136
>>337140752
Just to clarify that. They have definitely confirmed you are all in the same galaxy to begin with. So in that sense, yes it is multiplayer (if you are connected to the game servers that is). When you run into someone else playing, you will see them running around.

But yeah just remember there are 18 quintillion planets and each planet is the size of a real planet. Which is why these interactions are only likely to happen when you get nearer to the centre.
>>
>>337141000
18buttfucktonmilliion planets and only 18 people playing. Yeah may as well call it single player.
>>
>>337140553
Considering that Micro$oft is confirmed to actively shill on Facebook and Leddit, it wouldn't surprise me if other companies are doing the same thing here. /g/ is pretty much confirmed to get spammed with both OS and hardware shills every day.
>>
>>337140776
>>337140836
That makes more sense. Though I haven't seen a vidya go full internet meme since skyrim.
>>
>>337140390
>it will definitely flop then, unless the multiplayer offers a very compelling experience (which I doubt).
The game IS the multiplayer mode. There is no dedicated, separate multiplayer, whatsoever.

As long as you are connected to the game servers while you are playing, then it is multiplayer. At least in the sense that you will be able to run into other players (which is only likely to happen near the centre of the universe since the game is so astronomically vast)

I don't think you will actually be able to *do* anything with other people, at least not anything organised. But you could both decide to attack some trade ships together or something. With two people you would have a better chance of not dying. It's a sandbox game remember so you just sort of do what you want.
>>
>>337141156
Which is exactly why I said "these interactions are only likely to happen when you get nearer to the centre". Can't you read?
>>
>>337141279
I am feeling the meme shilling vibes with the new battlefront game hard thats only why I say so. I fear that you're right but it could work out nicely if the multiplayer really manages to build something nice and orgagnic around all the procedural content. If it feels alive it could end up being fun. With such a huge universe I'm not sure how it's going to work out though.

"Another player being in the same place at the same time is incredibly rare."

"And it's something that depending on how many people play the game might not even happen, basically."

"But if it does, we want people to have a little sense of that"

http://www.gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2014/12/24/a-look-at-no-mans-skys-creature-features.aspx

You're right that every category will have the same template animation. But each creature will have a variation of that animation. Remember this is a team of 10 people working on this game, not 800. So I think it's pretty amazing what they've achieved. And it still results in each creature being animated differently, so you won't just see every creature walking exactly the same.

Financially speaking, it's mathematically impossible for it to flop. If you're talking critically, then I'm going to say probably. At best, people might compare it to Elite: Dangerous how it's deep but incredibly boring since there's nothing to actually DO.

There is simultaneous multiplayer but running into someone is extremely unlikely because 1) there are quintillions of planets and 2) even if you are on the same planet as someone else at the same time, that planet is as big as a real planet.

He's not saying no you can't go around with other people, he's saying no that's not really what the game is about. That doesn't mean you can't do it, because you can still run into other people (though it's unlikely), like I have now said in this thread about 20 times

No it's not, just like if you're playing GTA V online in the free open world mode, that's not co-op multiplayer. It is some form of multiplayer though. NMS will be like that because you can run into other people. But you can't have a deathmatch with them. There is no dedicated multiplayer system.

People keep asking us about multiplayer and I think when people see this they are going to fully realize what it means to be that far away from somebody else who's playing. And I know that that's a bit weird for people, but it's what's different about our game. And we want to embrace that. We don't want people just scouting off beside their friends. I actually want people to boot up the game and just think, “Isn't the universe huge? Who are we? What are we all doing here?”
>People keep saying to us, “Yeah, but what if I knew where they were? Would I go there?” And it's like, yeah, but they are going to have to stay there for quite a while while you get over there. And then once you get over there you might land on the same planet and then you will say, “I'm on a planet the size of Earth and I am on a mountain. Could've been cool with multiplayer, with one player mining valuables resources while the other protect both from the fauna/killbots until both of them legs it.

I don't really care either way because I'm looking forward to it mostly due to the elements that are unaffected by single/multiplayers, but still. A way for two players to select the same planet in the galaxy and head to it, until they finally arrive after maybe a dozen hours of journey, could be really nice and since you'll have to work for it, it'll be memorable.

>A way for two players to select the same planet in the galaxy and head to it
Well if you organise with your friend enough you will be able to identify a planet with a name and then both travel to it.

As for further multiplayer modes and functions, they've suggested they could bring that in later on if there is demand for it. Sean has said that he hopes to keep working on the game after it comes out. But at the moment obviously those don't exist.

i dont know what your point of this post is, are you upset because i found an article that says it will have traditional multiplayer? im not denying the dev changed its stance, im simply showing at some point, the devs themselves said there were/are plans for regular multiplayer.

There isnt any traditional multiplayer. That is a statement perfectly crafted to cover his ass while at the same time keeping people in the scam. You are one of the idiots that obviously doesn't know how to read fine print. Also look at the date of that interview i happen to remember it came out around 2014 i bet. I would check but i would rather you look at it.

no it won't flop. A game with this hype and a team of literally 27 people can't even flop.

However there seems to be a lot of retards on /v/ that want's it to flop for whatever reason.
