Hey /v/, for gaming, which CPU should I buy?
i5 4460 or i5 6400 and why? I can get a good price on both but I don't really know if the differences.
I heard the 6400 is more upgradeable, whereas the 4460 is just better.
I usually stick with the same PC for 5-6 years and then upgrade, which CPU do you think I should get?
Thanks.
someone?
There is nothing better about the 4460. It's an older platform, on an outdated socket using outdated RAM (DDR3).
Get the 6400 and stop listening to the retards that would have you invest in a dead platform.

Isn't the clock on the 6400 a lot lower than the 4460? Also on every CPU benchmark I saw the 6400 performed worse.

Check again: http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i5-4460-vs-Intel-Core-i5-6400/2310vs3512
Also, the 6400 uses an architecture that is 2 years newer than the 4460 and is on a smaller node as well (22nm vs 14nm). So comparing the clock speed between the two is a bit meaningless.

4460 is outdated as fuck just get the 6400. Also should look into the 6600 is cheap as fuck.

So with the 6400 I won't have trouble playing newer games, like say next year FFXV? I plan on getting a gtx 970 too.

I don't think you need to upgrade CPU much. if you get an up to date one you should be good for like 5 years+

No you won't. If you are really worry about it then just get the 6500 instead. But really, you will be fine.
Thanks anons, I think I might go with the 6400. PCS are expensive as fuck where I live so I can't get anything better than that, I hope it plays shit on medium at least for 3+ years.

Get a GTX 1070, not a GTX 970.
