Where do you think they'll set it?
I've just had an idea - just like San Andreas had three cities, what if they went and did two new cities that are close to each other - Baltimore and Washington DC?
Think about it - Baltimore is famed for its gang culture. Then Washington is a big contrast, a city dominated by politics, and there would be so much material for Rockstar to parody there.
I reckon that would be cool.

Yeah that could definitely happen. I was just thinking that they sort of captured the whole sunny, beaches, wealthy lifestyle vibe with GTA V so I doubt they will want to repeat that. If they do Vice City I think they will have to capture a new unique feel for the game

You are going by the gap between 4 and 5. I think it will be 2019 or 2020, maybe later. They are still focused on GTA:O and making money. Plus I'd imagine they plan on an even larger map with more to do and a more interactive world (more enterable buildings, maybe more destructions, etc) which will take longer.

Yes Detroit could be cool since there is a lot of crime there.
The reason I thought of Washington DC though is that they always pick iconic American cities that everyone will recognise. I doubt they'll go straight back to Liberty City because GTA IV wasn't very long ago. And if they went back to Vice City it would be hard to distinguish it from the feel of GTA V, I think. They could set a new one in San Fierro (San Francisco) and lampoon today's tech culture, but they already did some of that in GTA V (iFruit, LifeInvader, etc)
If they went to Washington they could lampoon today's politics since that's such a big thing these days. And with Baltimore close, they'd have a prime setting for the criminal underworld too.
But I dunno I'm just thinking aloud. Yeah Detroit could be cool, they could really examine race politics (since Detroit is 80% black) and the blue collar life too.

I think vice city is a sure bet, they did mention before they would like to go futuristic in the next GTA.
70;s are the only decade that is missing from the decades they have done though.
In VC-5 they have mentioned in ads carcer city, so maybe they will create a new city

I mean when they originally did LS in San Andreas they focused on the ghettos, on the inner city, as a smoggy crime-ridden place, but since they changed the mood in GTA V to capture that sun, sea, beaches, extravagance feel, I doubt they will go straight back to the same sort of feel with Vice City.

they won't do detroit or philadelphia or baltimore or any of those boring cities with nothing in them. they'd sooner go abroad because a game centered around a city with no landmarks or unique vibe or culture except for nigger street crime would make for a boring gta game.

Since we're talking about where VI will be set, I'd really like to see Hawaii. Oahu could be the main island, similar sized to SA in V, with various other islands in the chain, some could have cities, some could just be rural, others could be deserted, or have crazy native tribes or something.

Secondly Washington is the primary city I thought of because like I said they have always done iconic American cities. Washington DC is probably the most important American city apart from NY and LA. And also they would have so much that they could lampoon and parody about American politics, and that cultural commentary is so important to the game.
I only thought Baltimore as well because it would provide such a great contrast to the up-tight, well-to-do world of Washington politics. And it would provide a great criminal underworld for the protagonist to start off in.
