Playing it atm.
It has pretty typical Mobile game elements you'd expect from it (AP/stamina that regens over time, questing gives you crystals that you spend in a gacha for better weapons, daily dungeons for EXP/Max level unlock mats, etc)
The actual combat is literally VP1. 4 characters, 2/3 attacks each, hit button for an attack, chain those hits to fill up the combo bar, unleash it when full for super. Weapons you get in quests and the gacha also give passive skills and stat bonuses, as well as alter the elements you hit with, so there's some teambuilding and preparation aspect to it. They also all have a limited use skill attached to them, so each mission you can use those skills for heals, buffs, AoE etc instead of attacks.
My main problem with it is that it's in japanese and I can't understand shit. It's easy enough to figure out what the menus are and how to actually play it, but as far as the story goes, I have no clue. It's a prequel that shows the origins of Lenneth.
I have no idea how well it'll do down the road, but for now it's entertaining enough.

OP you're forgetting DQ1 exists. Game hasn't aged very well at all. If it didn't exist, gaming wouldn't be the same as it is today but the random encounter rate is ridiculously high, absurd difficulty spikes, generic as hell battles with battle music that makes you go insane (though at least the rest is decent music), very little indication of what you're even doing two thirds of the time, DQ1 is a massive chore. DQ is a lovely series, however.

The games are all the same generic formula. And the Pokemon all feel the same but with different weaknesses and elements. Every game is just a different process of following the formula they've been using ever since Pokemon existed. The spinoffs are way more enjoyable as they all aren't generic and extremely uninteresting. No plot in the main games, no real variety in the main games, music and chicks are great but the spinoffs actually try.

They say it because the game consists of 90% grind, 9% walking, and 1% actual content.
Even as a kid I was put off by the grinding.
The remake that increased exp and gold is awesome though, because you spend more time actually progressing and exploring instead of hitting slimes 50 times until you hit ghosts 50 times until you hit skeletons 50 times and so on and so forth until you can grind gold golems for the best armor.
Not a bad game, but boy they sure improved on the concept with later titles.
