A sequel that didn't have to be made. It's just a longer, slightly more polished game with the same premise, nothing new was said and done that wasn't already in the original.
Besides, they lost the superior "enter a haunted church and explore it as it warps into hell itself, and kill the literal devil inside" for some bullshit contrived plotline with two new marysue villains.

Yes it is. The game is a fucking collectathon that encourages exploration but has you move so uncontrollably fast like your supposed to play it like a normal sonic game.
The game looks so muddy and the lockon is so busted you'll often attack your allies by mistake. Not to mention the horrible camera.
And then you just have the story and shadow as a character being fucking stupid even for a series about cartoon animals fighting a fat man in a hovercraft.
If Sonic 06 hadn't taken the cake for the worst game in the series, this probably would be the lowest point in the series.

Although I do agree Gen 5 was the epitome of Pokemon. People are way too quick to talk shit on Gen 6, whilst no post game content is truly unforgivable the PSS was one of the best steps forward we've had in the series as well as other steps to streamline competitive play. Megas also aren't that bad, they just need a bit more ironing out and more of them on the whole.
